By:
Hinault was Le Blaireau Sean Kelly was the Cannibal which is what i stated now connect the two.
By:
Victor Chandler is right.....The old rhyme rub a dub dub..The butcher the baker the candlestickmaker..so after the baker...chandler...He won..Victor...hence Victor Chandler.
By:
Way too cryptic for my small brain! Didn`t know anyone called Sean Kelly in racing but I`m not around long so it was a guess, because of Kellys nickname. [smiley:crazy]
By:
Sean Kelly is not the answer, the answer is the name of a horse, its still unanswered.
By:
its not badgers cross then?
By:
Are you on a time lag wmfb!?
Surely 100k is right, no!? |
By:

By:
[:D]
By:
Sean Kelly nickname The Cannibal..Bernard Hinault nickname Le Blaireau...two cyclists and they pedal not sell are irate = cross..hence Peddlers Cross.

Is 12 Silver Grey by any chance?
By:
3,11,and 12 unanswered.I now realise they are too hard for that i apologise Q3 and Q12 were two of the easier ones but on reflection Q11 is unfair as it reflects my prejudices, so often aired here, indeed a thread of mine was pulled because they must have thought i went too far on this subject.
By:
Forget that. I was thinking of Grey Abbey!
By:
Giant Strides...No but you have cracked it.
By:
good stuff, wildman. I take it we're looking for two horses and a jockey. Any clues/help appreciated.
By:
Correct Ribellaro.I am somewhat surprised Q3 has lasted so long, read it again and i did give a clue earlier.
Q12 Giant Strides has cracked this one so its only a matter of time. |
By:
12. Graham Lee?
By:
No...Giant Strides correctly picked up on the colour you have brought it a stage further and seem to be heading in the right direction.Am tired so this is my last post of the night.
By:
is 12 ginger mc cain....i know you already said it was not mc cain.. but is ginger the keyword ?
By:
12. Ruby Walsh
By:
Am back was racing in Clonmel.
Q12 is a horse..Giant Strides picked up on the fact that the colour grey can also be spelt with an a and Gray spelt this way is a famous name in English poetry as the author of probably the best and most quoted poem of all time...Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard. Can ye take it from here ? |
By:
12. Swain?
By:
Well done Ribellaro.....Haply some hoary headed swain may say.....is a line from Grays Elegy.
Swain dual King George winner |
By:
Please tell me you googled that ribellaro!?

Was at a Cheltenham table quiz two years ago, very enjoyable, sixty questions of varying degrees of difficulty we got 56 right 4 wrong finished third. Two teams scored full marks forcing a play off so the two teams with the 100 per cent record went head to head except this time there was someone standing at each table watching their deliberations...end result six extra questions asked not overly hard final score three...two.
It was then explained to me that the day of the table quiz is gone because apparently these new mobile phones are computers and they are used without making a call. Thats my excuse for making the questions hard. |
By:
I may be aging Ribellaro but i think men of his generation would know that most famous of poems by heart.
By:
Only two to go.Q3...A number of fingers....Its cryptic so its obviously not one two three etc so look for another meaning to the word number,my earlier clue was silent so try making the b silent take it from there.
By:
A number of fingers...number is the crucial word with a silent b so the word is numb...what makes you numb ether the cold more likely the cold so now it is something that makes you cold....away ye go.
By:
Eddy Merckx was the cannibal imo.
By:
Yes but so was Sean Kelly but agree Merckz was the original. As this was an Irish quiz felt it better to put in a cyclist they all knew.
By:
Back to Q3...A number of fingers...We have already established it has something to do with the cold....so final clue..He has had a bad Cheltenham already.
By:
3:Hayden Frost
By:
Well done observerirl....Thats your second correct answer i would have accepted Jimmy Frost as frost was what made the fingers numb.
By:
wd wmfb....good stuff
By:
So we're down to one, and your ton is safe wildman! Any clues?
Good quiz, but very, very difficult. Certainly a stinker. Btw, where was the Cheltenham quiz you went to? Myself and a few pals would love to go to a racing themed quiz, but the last one I saw advertised was in Meath. Any down Limerick/North Tipp side? |

I have long considered the French as cheats in all sports, what they did in Formula One when they were in charge was disgraceful, they have no concept of fairness. In horse racing they lead the field in doping, both Phil Drake and Lavandin the 1955 and 1956 Derby winners failed dope tests the French authorities managed to bamboozle the British with threats of boycotts and legal action to ignore the test results.Like all doped horses the two were abysmal failures at stud. There were similar question marks over Relko and later on Trepan actually failed a dope after the Champion Stakes and they managed to convince the British authorities that in Ryan Price like fashion the horse manufactured his own dope.
My favourite flat horse was Nijinsky i followed his career as he went unbeaten as a two year old, unbeaten in The Classics,Irish Derby and King George until he arrived at the race i hate the Prix de LArc,this overrated over hyped race comes too late in the season for any true champion so the inevitable happened an over the top Nijinsky lost his unbeaten record. This has to be the longest clue ever given but i will come back with another. |
