In my opinion binocular is the better hurdler.

Champion is going to be the race of the meeting though. Can't wait.

I Agree MC - Thats the day i'm going to take off work this year. Should be a cracker of a race - Hope they all get to the starting line now.

the way binocular won the champion last year is one of the most impressive performances ive seen at chelts
there and then i decided i´d look no further for the winner of the 2011 champ hrdle

hurricane is a great pretender and it´ll be a race to look forward to but i feel binocs 5yrold performance in the champion and last yrs (not to mention his good performance in the supreme novices) makes him a very worthy fav
itll be a new game for hurricane off such a hot pace and away from home on quicker grd at chelts imo

Personally i think that last years novices are better than both of them

champion hurdle this year is, quite simply, a 2 horse race. hurricane fly or binocular. THE REST DON'T COUNT. up to you how you play it.....

Hurricane Fly is a lay for the champion hurdle.Binocular,Menorah and Peddlers Cross have all won round Cheltenham,Hurricane Fly has never even seen the place that has to be a negative.

HF's sire is a negative, yet to have a winner at Chelt, 0-32 going into last year.
Even though sons & grand-sons of Saddler's Wells do very well there, SW being Montjeu's sire.
Saying that HF is without doubt the best NH progeny of Montjeu.

The only thing we know for sure about Hurricane Fly is that he is easily the best hurdler in Ireland

The more i read this thread the more convinced i am that Hurricane Fly is the lay of the meeting.
Lay lay lay....

Go Native has won a Christmas Hurdle and a Fighting Fifth in England and Hurricane Fly has treated him with contempt the twice they have met in their novice season, he must be outstanding. Solwhit has also won an Aintree Hurdle and beat the then champion Punjabi and Quevega at Punchestown in 09, Hurricane Fly must be a live contender given the ease with which he is beating these horses.

4 places 1/4 odds with Stan James looks very good value

I can't call him either way tbh as regards the CH.

anyone saying hurricane fly is a lay is a fool. haven't seen the best of him yet by a long way.

I`d have HF over Binocular, but I don`t think either will win (which means you can fill your boots with the forecast!).
Potentially the best CH I`ve seen. Fascinating race.

Slickster....Its an opinion, nothing more nothing less,it may turn out to be wrong but so what in racing you get used to being wrong.Come the day i think Hurricane Fly will be a place lay as well,i think i will be pushing all in here.

downallstar,

Can I ask where you got that Montjeu/Cheltenham statistic from?

Be My Native was another sire who had a terrible record there. I know he had a few winners (Native Emperor is the only one I can think of at the moment)but it was a shocking return considering the number of runners. I suppose his progeny preferred plenty of cut, which they rarely got.

Unfortunately the BMN angle is practically gone now :(

Rage - I had my own stats going into last year, forgot to update them, I'd say anyone with Raceform interactive could update us. There are plenty of trends/stats site nearer Cheltenham, hopefully one will update the figure.

I am wary of this stat though as Won in the Dark is probably the next best Montjeu, and well HF is in a different league to witd.

I like the Saddlers Wells(sons & grandsons), Kings Theatre & Presenting angle myself.

Thanks for that down,

Little things like that, while not the be all and end all, are handy weapons to have in the armoury.
If memory serves me correctly, Presenting didn't have one until War Of Attrition won the Gold Cup. How many runners he had previously though, I don't know.

Gr8 race cant wait for it like us all. Peddlers cross each way for me at the mo but wont decide till the day to bet thats even if i have a bet. A race to savour without doubt.
