Where do you think we would have gotten the bailout money from if we weren't in the EU?
Report wildmanfromborneo January 20, 2011 1:37 PM GMT
It was the EU that asked us to bail out the banks to save the Euro,so they owed us.Also if we had voted down Lisbon 2 we would still have been in the EU.

db1974.....Lisbon has everything to do with it they have us locked in,no need to be nice to us any more,so the first chance they got to punish us for the hardship we caused over Lisbon they grabbed with both hands. When the hard nosed I.M.F. cut us a better deal than our so called allies in Europe you knew it was pay back time.
Europe have blocked our attempts to curb welfare fraud, sham marriages and the ridiculous paying of millions in childrens allowances to children not domiciled in the state.
Report db1974 January 20, 2011 5:27 PM GMT
Can you give me a link to where Europe have curbed our attempts to curb welfare fraud and/or sham marriages please
Report wildmanfromborneo January 20, 2011 5:52 PM GMT
The European court blocked our attempt to legislate against sham marriages i am not sure what you mean by link but it is the aim of Europe to spread the wealth thats why we must continue sending millions in childrens allowance to poorer countries and attempts we have made to curb social welfare fraud have been struck down as discriminatory to facilitate this wealth distribution.I would have a sporting wager that db1974 gets his wages from Europe.

Otherwise it's just more anonymous bullshit posted on a sports forum

Are my posts more anonymous than yours? I also notice you neglect in Brigid Laffan style to tell us if you are paid by the EU.I wont descend to your language but i am angry because people like you hoodwinked the Irish people with promises of prosperity and now look another generation of Irish people are emigrating,i emigrated in the sixties but was lucky to get back,i dont see the present emigrants ever returning and thats the fault of the European elite who have been bought.Being bought was a valuable lesson for ye because ye used it to buy the second Lisbon vote.

I'm still waiting for the "proof" of your allegations
Report wildmanfromborneo January 21, 2011 11:44 AM GMT
Tell me how i can prove them and i will try.I notice you again dont respond to my questions the most important one being are you paid by Europe directly or indirectly.During the Lisbon debate all these people were trotted out by the yes side supposedly impartial but they turned out to have a vested interest. The most memorable event in the debate was when Brigid Laffan was exposed as an employee of Europe not the honest broker she claimed, there was a photo in the paper some weeks back of the same Brigid Laffan conferring an honoury degree on Brendan Halligan i found it nauseating they are still paying each other back.
Report db1974 January 21, 2011 12:21 PM GMT
Firstly you never asked me a question about where I worked. You made a throwaway comment at the end of your post at 17:52 about where you think I work or earn a living.

Secondly I asked you to provide a link to a reputable news website story showing that Europe has blocked our attempts to curb sham marriages and welfare fraud. Personally I don't believe you can do it because I don't believe it to be true.

The EU is many things, some good and some bad (I certainly disagree with the payment of childrens' allowance to children who don't live in Ireland). But to claim that they are blocking our attempts to curb welfare fraud and sham marriages is hard to believe. But I'll hold my hand up and admit I was wrong if you can provide me with some believable form of evidence.

And to answer your obsessive query I'm from Africa originally, married to a Lithuanian girl who I never met before our wedding day and haven't seen for about 2 years now. I live in Newry but travel down to Dundalk every week to draw my dole. What do you do yourself?
Report wildmanfromborneo January 21, 2011 12:53 PM GMT
I never intended to insult you but the question about your being paid by the EU was to see if you had a vested interest.I was disappointed when listening to reasoned debates to discover that one side was concealing a vested interest, the worst of these was Brigid Laffan, i thought she was a professor so i listened to her arguments, they were well made but when it was revealed she was just doing  her job i realised that all the yes side were doing it for money and as usual the ordinary people were left to pick up the bill.
A lack of knowledge of computers is hampering me in providing you with links.Dermot Aherne in conjunction with the Danish government looked for derogation on some human rights law to prevent sham marriages the European courts turned them down.
I worked in England for close on twenty years was lucky enough to get back to my beloved Tipperary where i now farm forty acres of land,i also follow the horses.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 24, 2011 12:48 PM GMT
db1974....You have gone quiet. It seems to me you learned well from the yes campaign, again in Brigid Laffan like fashion you conceal your vested interest,i do not believe you are African indeed from your user name i can deduce you are a 36 year old Dublin born civil servant with some European connection.I was up front and gave a laymans point of you dont you think you should have done the same.
Report db1974 January 24, 2011 1:09 PM GMT
There is very little point in having a debate with someone who cannot provide some form of backup for their wild claims.

Until you can provide some sort of evidence that the EU blocked our attempts to curb social welfare fraud and sham marriages this thread/debate is a waste of time.

At least give me some more detailed information:

1. What type of social welfare fraud is alleged? Why is it fraudulent and why would the EU have a vested interest in blocking our attempts to curb it?

2. Where are these sham marriages supposed to have taken place? Who is alleged to have gotten married and again, why would the EU have a vested interest in blocking our attempts to curb them?

You clearly cannot answer these questions or even provide one example of either allegation so you are attempting to deflect your own incapabilities/inadequacies back to me by claiming that I have a vested interest in Europe (again without any evidence whatsoever).

If the best you can do is baseless allegations then I would suggest that you let the thread die

Right - did my own digging

Sham Marriages
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper
/opinion/2010/1012/1224280877982.html

This article basically states that Ireland is one of the easiest countries in the EU to enter into a sham marriage because our laws aren't good enough to allow the Gardai and other law enforcement agencies to ask questions that can be asked in other European countries (eg - registrars can stop the marriage if they have suspicions and also both spouses can face jail time if convicted)

The fact that other European countries can ask these questions would indicate 2 things:

1. Ireland has shoddy laws in this area (no surprise there)
2. The EU doesn't have a problem with proper laws being enforced.

The EU does have a problem with across-the-board questions being asked and to some extent, this is fair enough. It stinks of racism to ask EVERY single Latvian woman and Pakistani man if their marriage is a real one or a fake one (nationalities are from the article in case anyone thinks I is racist!). Imagine if the IRA detonated a bomb in England and EVERY single Irish person was dragged into a police station in the UK to answer questions about there whereabouts.

So the problem actually lies with our law-making agencies, aka The Government. Nothing to do with the EU at all.

EU limits Irish Government's 'sham marriage' investigations -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Am I the only one who finds it incredible that the EU will continually interfere in the details of a states legal system, this time the EU wants to prevent Ireland investigating the acting against sham marriages so people can enter and stay in state under false pretenses?
Ireland should be allowed to do this, the EU should not interfere.
Another reason not to hand over more power to the EU institutions.

Quote:
IRISH GOVERNMENT investigations into “sham marriages” must not encroach on European citizens and their non-EU spouses’ right to move freely in the EU, say new guidelines.

The guidelines due to be published tomorrow by the European Commission also say the same fundamental right of free movement in the EU also applies to non-EU partners in “durable relationships” who are not married.

The guidelines have been drawn up in response to complaints voiced by Ireland and Denmark following a landmark ruling by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in 2008 in the Metock v Ireland case.

This test case was taken by four married couples living in Ireland who faced deportation. In each case the four EU citizens married asylum seekers, whose request for leave to remain in the Republic was subsequently rejected by the Minister for Justice. The Government argued unsuccessfully that it should be allowed to deport non-EU spouses who had not lived in another EU state prior to arriving in Ireland, to combat “marriages of convenience”.

Do you think the E.U. treated us fairly with regard the alleged bail out?
Do you still think there are no sham marriages and that the E.U.does not interfere with Irish laws?

No actually wildman brought it up but his post has been deleted for some reason. TBH I don't know why as there was absolutely nothing in it which would warrant deletion IMO. He merely referenced the fact that Joan Burton had mentioned new measures to combat these sham marriages.

Something is rotten in the State of Denmark here methinks.
