Sheer hard work and determination, booting home some real unfancied beasts. Stylish in the saddle.

Daddy appears to have a few entries on Friday.

give him a break, what he suppose to do?

that's why parents work hard, to give their kids a better opportunity. best of luck to him.

hope it all finishes in a tie,  boat carroll and cutis don't deserve to lose.

I think he is a humble young fella, i always thought of his father in the same light, mannerly, humble and well reared. Good luck to him and the two other young lads.

interesting comment, had a warranted ban overturned on appeal, been stuck on steering jobs all season.
Report murphyjust. December 9, 2010 4:02 PM GMT
ah jesus win only, ur a bit harsh, i think he's the most improved jockey i've seen all season. Yes he's ridden 19 of his 37 winners for his dad but he's ridden winners for 11 different trainers.

Gary Caroll has ridden winners for 14 different trainers with Mick Halford supplying 16 of them.

Ben Curtis has ridden winners for 16 different with 6 winners the most supplied by any one trainer.

However if you take the rides for AOB, MH and TMcC out of the equation Curtis has ridden 33 winners for 383 ride (8.6%), Carroll 23 winners from 299 rides (7.7%) and O'Brien 18 from 169 rides for the best strike rate of the three at 10.65%

Hardly adds to your sliver spoon theory..good luck to them all

That's far too intelligent a point for a thicko like me murphyjust.

Great post murph.

Great Post Murphy.
& just to confirm the theory that all 3 deserve their position -
Stats for Handicaps only are
J O Brien 20 wins from 181 mounts 11%
G Carroll 25 wins from 261 mounts 10%
B Curtis  29 wins from 320 mounts  9%.

3 Good jockeys & both Curtis & O Brien much improved this year.
Report redbait December 9, 2010 5:25 PM GMT
Dont forget that Joe barely rode up until he finished his leaving cert in mid June. If he had ridden all year, he would have hacked up in this
Report irish_guy_13 December 9, 2010 6:13 PM GMT
he'll win it next year surely?
Report Cupwinkcook December 9, 2010 7:44 PM GMT
weight could be a problem for him next year

what's his current minimum?

I know when I was his age I was 9st 4, which went up to 11 st 7lb within a couple of years.
Once the metabolism slows down, you're banjaxed.

Excellent jockey, his performances belying his years. Pure begrudgery to try and discredit what he's achieved.

With the greatest respect there's been a whole pile of pish been written here about master o brien and his daddy.Aidan O Brien  being humble is certainly a new one.Just ask anybody who works for him and they should give you an indication of his level of humility. As for the young fellow, his riding skills are to any observer who studies racing intently, very limited indeed. He's a two trick pony if there ever was one,he can ride and often win from the front when he's on the best animal, and he can beat the shiit out of one, that's basically it.If he wasn't   O Briens son he'd be lucky to be allowed muck out. This is nepotism at it's brilliant best,it's not the ist and won't be the last time we have seen instances of this in sport , but this is a quite glaring example.Last but definitely not least are the idiot trainers who have facilitated his title bid in the last few weeks, them clowns should have thought to themselves would Aidan O Brien have facilitated their son in a similar situation?,the answer is a resounding no as everybody knows.
Report RicksonG December 9, 2010 11:17 PM GMT
The SR figures above are useless unless you take into account the SP and the implied SR which the mounts were predicted to win by the public.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, but the figures as presented above are incomplete from an analysis perspective.
Report robo December 9, 2010 11:22 PM GMT
Rickson G is quite correct, but that doesn't seem to enter the equation with some people.Ask yourselves one question, how many favourites did Curtis and Carroll ride in maidens this year, not many I would say.
Report tobywong. December 9, 2010 11:51 PM GMT
I reiterate wishing best of luck to all 3 young men in their quest to become champion apprentice , it has been good entertainment over the last few weeks , i think they might be coming into the jockey market at the right time and hopefully a couple of them will forge a good career out of it .
Report irish_guy_13 December 10, 2010 12:16 AM GMT
