Stick to the "coastal" courses in NI , Workrider .  Working from the top , Castlerock , Portstewart , Portrush ( both courses ) offer better year round  terrain and underfoot conditions , all being links .  And on way home take in Newcastle .

Not sure re deals , there is one involving Newcastle and Ardglass ( again a good linksy course ) . In and around Belfast Belvoir , Malone , and Royal Belfast are 3 lovely courses .  There is a deal ref County Down courses , but a lot of the courses involved are not top drawer and a waste of time unless you are a golfing rabbit . Cheers .

Workrider, some cracking links courses in Donegal, Greencastle, Fahn, Ballyliffin etc... Depends on your itenary, but could be off the beaten track. Don't book those package deals, do it yourself on the net, much cheaper. Unless of course you make a killiong at Leopardstown over Xmas![;)]

Donegal has been deserted as a tourist venue recently , mainly due to economic and geographical considerations .  Shame as it is a beautiful natural scenic location generally , if sometimes a bit wild weatherwise .

One of my sons has a house in Donegal , like a lot of nearby northerners with a few bob to spare and interest in the "free" nature of the county .  But about a third of the similar houses in Donegal are for sale given the parlous nature of economies south and north , particularly the housing sector .

The golf courses are still splendid , even if not attracting the previous volumes . Murvagh I would add to previous list , must have best entrance of nearly any club on the planet . I hear some slightly strange stories re costings of  playing golf casually  , cant guarantee veracity as they are hearsay , but often its a case of supply and demand ( and demand is low at present ) .  Changing counties , Druids Glen had phenomenal deal recently , some of the lads from my club were there in Sept / Oct , course in great condition etc .
Report workrider December 7, 2010 5:44 PM GMT
deplasterer , i play donegal gc or murvagh as its known and bundoran every year smashing courses i've played a few others in donegal as well . agree kelly re the drive into murvagh is fantastic , not in a million years would you belive there could possibly be a golf course at the end of that drive . we also pay enniscrone and strandhill in that area , i'm very lucky were i live as within a half hours drive of my house i have access to around 15/20 golf clubs .
Report robo December 7, 2010 8:04 PM GMT
It depends on where ye park the caravan wonky as to how many golf clubs are in range surely
