Forget these meetings. they can be run at fairhouse/punchestown in a weeks time. It is important to run the grade one races now or else it will be to close to Leoparedstown Christmas Festival.

As usual the powers that be in irish racing wouldnt know their ars. from their end. Its a vital time of the year for up and coming novice horses and we havent had racing for a week. They seem preoccuppied with putting on a card of all graded races whilst dropping what they consider the lesser races. How many entries will they get for these races 5/6 etc whilst the majority of horses in training have no races available for them. One wonders what exactly their function is. As far as im concerned the owners pay for this game and get shafted at every available opportunity by the powers that be. You are spot on that a number of tracks could handle racing. Galway could easily have winter racing. They are hell bent on closing Thurles which is the life blood of National Hunt. When I see Kavs 300k salary and the irish derby prize funds one wonders on the agenda of these people.

Boba, the Fairyhouse 8 race card includes three novice events and another Grade 1 which must take priority as they are important for horses following the graded pattern. Three other races races are grade B or C. Alternative fixtures will, I'm sure, be introduced to make up the difference for lesser classes of race but, in fairness, who is going to make the trip to Cork with horses when the road conditions are the way they are. You could end up with ten runner maiden hurdles. A little common sense is required. We have horses ready to run too but they physcially can't leave the yard safely. Let's shut up shop for a week and hope a thaw arrives.

Common sense would be running the races wherever they can be run. Perhaps the fact that HRI own Fairyhouse has played a role in their decision not to transfer those races elsewhere, that is just speculation on my part. Has someone in HRI picked up a phone and asked 15-20 trainers if they would be willing/able to travel to a fixture elsewhere?

Revise the commercial terms. Better to have the race soon rather than letting this drag and running it too close to Leopardstown. If I was Bar One I would rather see Solwhit win the Hattons Grace in Mallow with a crowd present than Oscar Dan Dan winning it for the second time in a row on a Thursday a few days before Christmas.
About time Mallow proved itself useful for something other than overflow for the Blackwater.

TGM, I believe Mallow is frozen solid. Not an eyeball's chance of it going ahead.
Surely Galway should be made to use their course during the 9 months they don't bother to race.

I wouldn't be advocating Mallow specifically. I simply think that HRI should be more fluid with their plans and if there is a racecourse standing idle that is fit to race, then race.

Cork racecourse has escaped the worst of the Arctic-like weather of recent weeks, and the Mallow venue is looking forward to holding one of their flagship meetings of the season this Sunday.
The Grade 2 O'Connell Group Hilly Way Chase is the feature event over two miles, and there is also two Grade 3 races on the card.
The O'Connell Group are also sponsoring the Cork Stayers Novice Hurdle over three miles, while the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Lombardstown Mares Novice Chase (2m1f) is another Grade 3 contest.
Cork's marketing manager Mary Kelly said this afternoon: “We haven't had any snow here at all, and the track is in perfect condition. We have fresh ground on the hurdle and chase courses, and could have raced here all last week.”
? why were fixtures not transfered?

Roll on Mallow next week-end. A top class fixture takes place on Sunday. A grade 2 and two Grade 3 races on the card. There is music put on after racing. Also there are buses put on to take racegoers from the town/station to and back to the races. They even have a late bus when the music is finished. Hats off to the hard working committee down there. Monday is an industry day basically taking the Wexford fixture that was lost to drainage problems last month.

Mary Kelly from Cork racecourse certainly knows her onions, the track is in perfect condition she said.Saddlers Hall must have been housebound for the last 2 weeks if he didn't see any snow in Mallow.HRI should have raced in mallow last week alright, maybe they should have had a heat of dancing on ice down there, that would have been more appropriate.
