Seafield (nap)
Report SatelliteFlight November 21, 2010 11:13 AM GMT
1.05 - Seafield (extra 4F will suit and hoping he can take this on his way to better things)

2.45 - Moskova / Lochan Lacha (Moskova has 2 ways of running but thouhgt she ran decent in her 1st run this season over hurdles and if it is a going day i think she must go close. Lochan Lacha will absolutely love the ground and stays forever, should run well off 10-0)

good luck [;)]

A marvellous crowd as usual turned up for Troytown day yesterday for very high class competitive racing.

The bookies I reckon came out on top. I got taken to the cleaners but there is always next week.

Davy Condon and Alan Crowe two of the new kids on the block took the feature races. That is the second big chase for Alan having got the better of Ruby in the Cork National on Streets Of God recently.

A nice gamble was landed in the bumper where the amusingly named Catcherinthescratcher (4/1 into 10/3) ground out a convincing victory for Eddie Hales.

The only downside to a most successful day was the demise of the top class hurdler Fionngas owned by local Owner at the first fence in the Beginners Chase. The lass who looked after the horse was inconsoleable as her pride and joy had to be put down.
Odds on punters no doubt were licking their wound too.

A lot of shorties were turned over on the day.

Very high class racing is a huge overstatement.

The Troytown is not even a high class handicap chase and caters for middle the road chasers. It is a very competitive chase but attracts no high class horses because of its structure.

It was a moderate opening hurdle. We had an 80-116 handicap hurdle and then ended with a mares bumper.

Competitive racing it may have been, but high class it certainly was not.

I presume by its structure you mean the value of the race or the handicap band. Yes the value of it has come down to 85k. It is still a 0-150 race though(supposedly a top handicap). In my opinion the Paddy Power(€190,000) takes a lot of potential horses from the troytown. In truth it shows their hand a little too soon. Im sure the first 4 in the troytown will win their share of races though. Very hard for good chasers(135+,the few genuine ones we have) to run in these races. Giving lumps of weight away to lowly weighted horses is tough. Streets of Gold's six pounds hike in the weights (Cork National) seems to be very very lenient in light of this race.
My opinion is that we have very few genuine staying chasers in this country. The few that we have seem shy of throwing them into these handicap chases as they feel they are just setting it up for something off a light weight.
The answer, maybe the Troytown should be a limited handicap chase (a 130-160 handicap chase)
In conclusion...Streets of Gold with adequate jumping wins the Paddy Power!
