What good would reporting it do for the game? I think they are right to keep it quiet. Attendances are down and this would hardly encourage people to come racing.

What's that got to do with the thread you started, you wanted what happen Saturday night reported when it could be detrimental to attendances, which are already down. What would the sense in that be? I am not a big fan of the I.G.B either but I think the GNM was right not to report this

THE RTE cameras will travel out of Dublin for the first time for a live greyhound telecast on Saturday, December 18 when the final of the Kerry Agribusiness St Leger will be featured in an hour-long programme from the new Limerick Stadium. Last year programmes were shown on Setanta from Cork and Waterford, but the national broadcaster has never previously shown live racing from the provinces. The action will also be shown worldwide online through the website at rte.ie.

To answer your original point Reluctant it looks like the mini riot last Saturday has indeed been brushed under the carpet. Just carry on boys, no cops, totally outnumbered security, lets bring in and serve any crowd of louts, and maybe with the car boot sales and the raffle tickets the game will survive. Somebody could have been killed in that crazy business, but what the heck, sod the ordinary punter and above all lets avoid bad publicity.

The fight could of happened anywhere, it's not Shelbourne or the I.G.Bs fault it happened. And as for reporting it, what is the point of scaring away potential new customers who could read it and vow to never go to the dogs?

I find it staggering that there was no police presence in the first place, secondly that they were not sent for at some stage of the evening as one of the groups at least was building up a fair head of steam. Even more incredible it appears they weren't sent for during or after the riot. Indeed official Garda sources were quoted as saying they had no knowledge of any incident. I can't agree that Shelbourne had no responsibility. Behaviour that would not be tolerated in any pub is now apparently part of "the fun" of going greyhound racing.

Agreed GANTOO7 about the drink outside but that has being going on for years. To be fair 98% of people having a drink at the dogs, inside or outside, are no threat to anyone, but rowdy groups singing songs and generally acting the maggot should not be tolerated. And isn't it surprising that Shelbourne Park on a Saturday night has, seemingly, no Garda in attendance, or was last Saturday a once off? God knows what Paddy Ryan makes of it all.

Ballhopper i know Paddy very well and still get a lift home off him the odd time but that is a stupid statement. Remember Oaks night 2 years ago? It was even worse the fighting and goings on afterwards when all the pikeys went crazy. Paddy was in charge then!
The garda came when they where called on saturday night. May i ask a question how would they pay the garda to stand there at every meeting. Perhaps they should make it €20 entrance, but then again a lot on other forums are moaining about the €10 entry fee.
What happened Saturday night should not of happened however it is a regular occurance everywhere in this day and age. Its societies fault, its the way people act now, they go out get absolutely wasted on drink and drugs and end up fighting. Its sad but true.
As for the crowd who where all dressed up as i posted on the Mannions Builders thread on the greyhound forum(if ya care to read it), they where noisy yes but where not causing any real problems that i could see, they seemed to be enjoying themselves. The people that started fighting with them came from upstairs so they where the ones looking for the trouble as they came down in a huge gang obviously with the intention to start a fight.

A lot of fair points there Satellite, but doesn't last Saturday prove just how having a Garda there would pay for itself. Would agree there's little need midweek. Still not sure that covering up things is right, but we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I had read your thread in forum by the way. Re admission prices, I reckon they're about right.
