Just back really annoyed over this had a nice little punt on the Irish lads thought they would try and make us after last week. What is it? Is it the cushy govt jobs the lads all have or where they scared of the the Bushwackers giving them a few smakaroos ?

Had to laugh at the front page of the Indo and the star today, Brave Ireland???? My god they just got hammered in two games of gaelic football by Australia. If anything these Irish players were not brave just my honest opinion as they played both nights when the game was over and may have fooled some people into thinking the late rallies looked good and late on were the only time they seemed to move the ball with speed as well over all lack of heart to get beaten by what is basically your own sport. It would be nice if we can have a civilised chat on the subject.

I asked for a civilised chat as to the reasons Ireland were beaten by Autralia at gaelic football and you turn around and call me sad and pathetic?

You should keep your concern for your own sport of soccer Rocket. Watched rovers on friday night, absolutely shocking, couldn't string two passes together, most of their players looked unfit and they're supposed to be the best soccer team in IrelandLaugh.

We've some really good soccer players here, who play when they've no Gaelic commitments, who would easily match that Bray team (a lot of them have played soccer with and against them so they know them well), so where does that leave us, an average local gaa side, with Shamrock Rovers who were outplayed by Bray for long periods of that game.
By:

Dazza we must try and beat Australia at our own game (Gaelic football) before trying to muscle in on the champions league reps of Ireland Blush

How could Shamrock Rovers or Bray Wanderers or even the wider public even take our Gaelic football boys seriously if we can't beat guys who never played it up to 2 weeks ago and were still jet lagged Laugh
By:
daradasi
When: 01 Nov 10 16:37
The "wider public" certainly don't take Shamrock Rovers or the LOI seriously, hardly nobody goes to or takes an interest in their games.

I'm pointing out to you that if you think an Irish team (who are light years ahead of their LOI counterparts in fitness and overall sporting ability) losing in a hybrid exhibition Aussie Rule/Gaelic game is an embarrassment you must be thoroughly ashamed of our LOI soccer standards.

I'll draw a few form or standard lines for you, as I said our local GAA committed occasional soccer players have already proven themselves every bit as good at soccer as the Bray lads that outplayed Rovers(Irish champsGrin).
These same fellows can't get near, by All Ireland standards, a very average county GAA team and the players on that county team can't get anywhere near the International Rules squad.
So as these lads are every bit as good, if not better, Gaelic players than soccer players where does that leave LOI standards.

GAA muck savage amateurs to the extreme
a nation with 200 years experience playing the "sport" gets beaten by a country with 2 weeks experience.

Dazza they had only a week and a half of kicking a round ball, some of those lads never even seen a round ball before. And they beat our national team, our gaelic football players. Jeez all you have to do is look at Jason Sherlock proven to not have the fitness to last 90 minutes no LOI team would touch the lad but yet was getting his game for Dublin, i know this broke Jason heart.Sad Dazza i suppose it shows the skill set is a lot lower in gaelic football compared to Hurling, Soccer, Rugby, Golf, Rounders etc etc ?

Rocket, seeing as were taking it a gimmie that LOI players are about 4 levels below top Gaelic footballers, if thats chingachgook's assesment of Gaelic players I don't think I'd like to hear his description of LOI playersPlain.

Gary Twigg got motm on Friday night and all he did was stand there for 50 mins with his hands on his hips with a fat arse, a little belly  and at least 3 or 4 chins. The chap looks totally unfit and about 2 stone overweight and he is one of the best players in the league.Laugh

Daza i know it must help you and wayside to lash out Twigg was injured played through the pain barrier something League of Ireland players can do better than Gaelic footballers.Cry

This is our national game and i for one love gaelic football, But Daza, Wayside, Toby and Gantoo please look away now you won't like what you are about to read. In 2005 during the mid point of the season a comparison test was made between LOI players and gaelic footballers, and guess what LOI players came out as far far better atheletes, fitter, not fatty slobs with big bellies and a more arobic body also very interesting they can a greater treshhold to pain i.e. greater men. LaughI'm worse to be arguing with the forum fool, you're some chancerLaugh. I've actually seen 3 or 4 genuine assessments over the years and the all had Gaelic footballers streets ahead of LOI soccer players.

Haven't any more time to waste in childish arguments you build your life around Rocket, but I'll leave you with Mick Galway's (someone who knows what he's talking about and a professional Rugby man) recent opinion that he believes GAA players are  the finest athltetes and sports people we have in Ireland. I think we both have to defer to his experienced knowledgable and impartial opinion, good evening.

For starters they were not playing gaelic football, if they were they would have beaten the aussies. The aussies are also professional athletes.

A good mate of mine played LOI football and gaelic football. He gave up playing the former because, rightly or wrongly, gaelic football in Ireland always has been and always will be more appealing than loi soccer. There were more people at a a made up gaelic football/aussie rules game on saturday night than the combined attendances at all of the final loi games. QED.

Kavvie Bray are small club with a small ground but fair play it was over sold out as per RTE website "With the Carlisle Grounds a sell-out, several hundreds more thronged to the seaside venue for a crowd in excess of the expected 3,000."

Some of you just are just obsessed with soccer i came on here to talk about the recent gaelic football match v Australia. "Take the Aussies and freebies out of Croker and i doubt there was more than 3,000" said one high ranking official i know from the GAA.

ur high ranking gaa officials are a figment of your imagination and every one here knows it.tell me why there were vast empty spaces either side of the goals in bray?and lots of empty seats in the stand facing the cameras?!!?.they mustnt be great at counting or estimating capacity?.also there were 60000 people at the game in croker.are you saying 57000 were freebees and kids?good one that!

You wouldn't be able to move through Rockets phonebook for the amount of people he must have saved as high ranking officials who always share his view 100%

Ireland have been poor this rules series and we have ourselves solely to blame. Two years ago we played good stuff and were scoring goals for fun over there, this year its constant hand passing and players who seem unable to kick for goal two in 8 quarters is not enough.

The Australians were better then expected Malthouse is a Grand Final winning coach and he showed why in both games he lorded it over Tohill had his team well organised and kept Ireland quiet untill the final quarter of both games. The pace of the likes of Dane Swan and Adam Goodes is something the GAA players couldn't get a handle of.

In fairness the Carlisle grounds was certainly sold out, absoloutely no way you would have been paying on the gate anyways tickets were certainly in demand and the Carlisle grounds would not be allowed to hold more due to health and safety, this was Bray's biggest crowd in 10 years.

The test is the Fai Cup Final, the FAI have made a good move with the 10 euro tickets, two teams who want to be there including the best supported team in the country, the ticket sales have looked good, for a tenner I have no problem heading down to it and will.

24,500 or so were at the Womans Gaelic football final this year, the FAI would want to beat that.

Irishro hard to believe alright, one of the lads who would be ITK in the clubhouse tonight, said they played soccer with the oval ball and that he had met some of them out around town on Sat night and they confirmed this as FACT.

Go on sure have a guess.................If you get it right I will send you a few tickets for the cheap seats at the fai cup final...I believe they are €10 or are they the dear ones.................fair play for giving the young kids freebies to fill up the seats...nice touch by your boys.........For that sort of money I might even take a trip up myself........
By:

gantoo i lead to believe the vast majority of the Irish players have govt cushy jobs. gantoo i don't think there are actually any tickets left for the cup final maybe the GAA will again copy the FAI and now be forced into lowering prices and filling up some of those half empty grounds we are seeing more and more of in the summer. There is a recession on :(
By:
GANT007
When: 02 Nov 10 15:07
At least you have changed your mind and now believe the recession has dented crowds at sporting events...well done.

I think your high ranking GAA friends are pulling your leg.......I reckon 1 player off that list is a paid employee of the state. I am open to correction.

What harm is there in an amateur organisation following the lead of a professional outfit like the fai.
