Bono would have to be the most famous Irish Person going.

Not right but you would struggle to find many foriegners who have not heard about him in some regard.
Report rule4 will apply October 29, 2010 1:11 PM BST
not sure many know that Bono is Irish, i met a bunch of yanks last summer...all ages..from 16 up to 50. U2 came on TV in the background, i said...ah Bono, one of our more famous exports. Not one of them (there was at least 10 of them) knew that he was actually Irish. They assumed he was American!

Have to do it by category , how many know Boyle(s law) ?   Daniel O'Connell was famous 2 centuries ago , not a mention here I suspect . Lucky St Patrick was not Irish , he might figure otherwise .

Ireland really does not have that many world known famous people from a historical point of view. In part due to its small size and in part due to its history. It has not a rich legacy of inventors who changed the world or artists or musicians who will be remembered hundreds of years from now.

I would say Irelands biggest legacy to the world would be its immigrants who went to America.
