Ian see him staying personally and I heard he is being aimed at ryanair this year but suppose the gold cup would be an option should he run well here... also from rac ingpost his pedegree states the following....

Brother to Irish point/hunter chase winner Optimistic Run and winning Irish pointer Doneraile Park and half-brother to Irish bumper winner Jack Fla; unraced dam from family of smart staying chaser Fearless Fred.

Seems alot of staying pedegree in him.

Good chance of continuing his runner-up sequence so.

If it wasn`t for (possibly luckily) short heading Kalahari King in the Arkle, Fpdp would have an extraordinary 10 2nds(9 Gr1s and 1 Gr 2)in a row!!!

Fwiw, I think he would love bowling around Kempton but for me the ability to get the trip has to be doubtful.

Stepping up in trip surely the key to this weak-finishing pig.

The continuation of his run of seconds is highly unlikely, given the presence of two market leaders guaranteed to stay the distance; AND a likely runner in Long Run who won at the same meeting last year [although not over the same distance].

I suspect Cooper is "doing a de Bromhead" and seeing if he's a potential GC hoss on his hands...however, staying 3m on a flat, right-handed track like Kempton is a world-apart from the undulating track & frentic pace of a 3m1f GC...

The evidence of his runs todate he won't stay.

He wilted up the hill over 2 m 4 (it changed that day because it was held on the Friday) in the Ballymore.
He wilted in the Drinmore against Trafford
He ran a decent race at a distance in the PJ Moriarty against Cooldine
Didn't stay in the Melling last yr...

Unlike Sizing this fellow has been tried at trips over 2 miles and in my opinion just didn't stay enough to be a winner at that level. He does travel well and will in all likelhood run into a place over 3 miles but the same can be said about him over 2 miles. But for Big Zeb this yr he would have been a decent winner of the champion and i believe thats his distance.... lot of valuable prizes to be won in Ireland at 2 miles, i'd be keeping him at that

Would agree with that, except the point re: the Melling.

Nags running well at the Festival tend to flop a month later at Aintree, presumably, due
to the prior month's excursions at Cheltenham.

I was amazed when he won the Arkle last year, didn't think he was classy enough; Having said that, Golden Silver won the Irish Arkle the prior month on absolutely bottomless...I looked some fool telling one & all that he couldn't possibly win at P'Town this year on the ground!

Remember Forpady was injured and also held up due to the frost before QM last year, and ran a cracker to be 2nd. I personally would keep him 2 mile and have a go at QM this year again, can def beat Big Zeb on a given day.

Reckon he will stay no problems and if getting to the race fit and well you will see a different hoss and an interesting jockey up too.

I think he wants and needs 3 miles, as long as its not a bog at kempton, the strong pace should suit him.

Kauto went the Tingle/QMCC/KG IV/ Gold Cup route, with the odd sortée to Haydock for the Betfair; and the occassional last ditch fiasco in Aintree for a couple of successive Aprils.

Cooper's hoss - a game beast; and talented at his own level - go: Ballymore Properties [3rd on the Friday in 2008 if memory serves, I think I win-laid him at circa 7s]; beaten in a 4-runner Irish Arkle by a Mullins' hoss that everyone had forgotten until P'Town this year - you could argue that both ground & pace [false] did FPDP that day; then 2nd in the QMCC, in which he ran into perenial bridesmaid BZ having "his day".

I think he was then second to either Kempes or PoS at P'Town - would need to check the RP site.

There is nothing in his career to date to suggest he is classy enough to be a significant GC player.

I'd need to see the hoss stay 3m4f on a prep run beforehand, to be even convinced he'd last 3m off of a frentic GC pace, around an undulating track...

steeringjobnap , kauto star an exceptional horse imo , not saying in the least that you could compare  the 2 . its just that even paul nicholls thought he woulden't stay the gold cup distance, and we all know what happened .

Could not see Forpaddy finishing in the same parish as Imperial Commander in a Gold Cup no  matter what the pace of the race,Cooper & De Bromhead tilting at windmills.

You've lost me here. Big Zeb has won 6 of his 10 completed starts over fences. The losses were the Tingle Creek, a a head second to Master Minded, a half length second to Conna Castle and second to J'y Vole. The latter two as a novice. Hardly a perenial bridesmaid.

On For Pady, they wanted to step him up in trip before, as a novice, but saw some sense. I don't understand why they don't make more use of him over shorter trips. He jumps well and stays two miles well. While he has every chance of staying three miles, he is not as good as Kauto was when he stepped up to three miles and will have no hiding place if he doesn't quite get home. Personally, I don't see him staying as I think he has the foot at two miles, he's just ridden aggressively enough.

(1.) BZ was absolutely smashed in the TC;

(2.) Fell at the 2nd in the QMCC last year [despite being 3/1 in the "w/o MM" market; AND being one of Nick Mordin's 2009 NH '10 to follow'];

(3.) Despite having warmed up for that race with a winning clip over hurldes at F'House [King Crisps Hurdle];

(4.) He had MM & the race at his mercy at P'Town.

So the current QM CHAMPION is a bridesmaid? Still lost me. He was smashed in the TC becuase he wasn't right. He fell at the top of the hill in the QM in 2009, not the 2nd. Which, btw, is the same fence Moscow Flyer fell at. The race in Fairyhouse was after rather than a war up for cheltenham. and yes, he would have beaten MM if he jumped the last at Punchestown. So I guess you could call Imperial Commander a bridesmaid too. Sure he fell at Aintree, did nothing in the King George.......

imv this horse can jump, has the tendency to hang, but crucially
because he's very genuine and simply trying to run faster but cannot.
3miles should not be an issue and its form holds up very well.
most importantly has won an arkle too and had plenty of these others behind him before. 12/1 is a give away imo.

at the end of the day, Kauto Star has had some fairly average horses
within 20lb of him whenever he seems to produce wonder ratings, and i'd be happy betting against him at evens for this race.  this race looks quite hot.

Im on at 20s each way, good while back whilst hoping for win think it is highly unlikely.
Sizing at 8s without fav is decent price?

When you win the QMCC I think its reasonable to say you are no longer (if you ever were)a perennial bridesmaid

All Tom Cooper wants for Christmas is decent ground as Forpadydeplasterer prepares for the William Hill King George VI Chase at Kempton on St Stephen's Day.

The County Kerry trainer believes good conditions are the eight-year-old's secret weapon as he steps up to three miles for the first time in the festive feature, where he will clash with Kauto Star and Long Run.

"He's doing very well and I'm very happy with him," said Cooper.

"We've had no problems so far, he's been working every day.

"I'm hoping it's going to be on, that we get nice ground and we'll see how we get on over three miles.

"The ground was on the soft side last year but the three or four years prior to that it was nice ground. The ground is the secret with him."

Forpadydeplasterer has been remarkably consistent. He has finished second in his last seven races and 10 times in his last 12, winning the other two.

His last win came in the 2009 Arkle Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival while he was runner-up to Big Zeb in the Queen Mother Champion Chase in March.

He also had to be content with runner-up spot on his reappearance at Cheltenham last month when he was four lengths inferior to Gauvain.

"He's had a good preparation and he'll have improved from his run at Cheltenham," Cooper went on.

Forpadydeplasterer is set to travel over from Ireland on Thursday by which time Cooper is likely to have finalised jockey plans.

"I've not got a jockey for him yet. I haven't got that far," he added.
