A rare smile back on my face tonight.
In fairness, I also thought they would frustrate Juve, and if it wasn`t for that early goal it could well have stayed scoreless. Brilliant finish to be fair.

had the same idea, trade 0-0

I have to say i thought Shamrock were terrible absolute anti football. They may well win the league but that does not hide the fact  they are one of the worst footballing teams in the league.

Jimeen i am a fan of the league but Shamrock Rovers did not attempt to play ball, i always call it as i see it and just because i am a soccer fan does not mean i have to big it up every time. I am comfortable in slating my sport whn i have to because i know it's the best. This time i ain't slating the sport more Shamrock Rovers and their disgusting attempts and trying to play the beautiful game.
Report GANT007 July 30, 2010 2:25 PM BST
How could they attempt to play against a professional outfit...............They might look good against the usual jokers they play week in week out...........
Report Rocketfingers July 30, 2010 3:35 PM BST
Actualty they don't Gant007, it was pro v pro last night and you ignorance of the number 1 sport in our country and it's number 1 league is shocking, but i have not seen them play in amonth and they looked terrible.

Gant007 tip for you my man,  if you're going to 'try' and make money from sport at least know what you're talking about first of all ;)

Rocket ,
Shamrock Rovers players are not full time, it was not pro vs pro. Your idea that we could try and play football against a team that cost over 100m is laughable. When we switched from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 they opened us up at will.I would tend to agree with you that during the league this year that we have played a more direct unattractive style of football.Last night to keep the score down thats what was needed. Great night for the club.KOH.

rocketfingers "if you're going to 'try' and make money from sport at least know what you're talking about first of all"

Take note of what you say for yourself. You have clearly never played football at any level. I play at a good amateur level and in cup games we have come up against better sides and you have to adapt. They done what they could and where unlucky. They played some decent stuff against what you seem to forget, a team that despite all their recent problems are the Famous Juventus, on of the famous sides of world football. Get real
Report Jockey Full Of Bourbon July 30, 2010 4:48 PM BST
Rovers produced a decent display against the odds, struggled against a true class player Amauri but for me they tried to play football
Report daradasi July 30, 2010 4:58 PM BST
Was told a few ago by a dedicated Rovers supporter that there was a fair bit of concern in the club about the decline in attendances, down around 25% he reckoned, even with the club doing better than they have for many years. He was blaming the unattractive football they're playing.

Surely last night was a good opportunity to arrest this decline in front of a decent crowd, live TV and plenty of media attention, by going out and giving it good go against a vulnerable enough Juve team. Think this opportunity to entice people back to the games was missed with the negative display that never really got the crowd going. Watching on TV the athmosphere came across as "morgue" like most of the time to be honest.
Report Rocketfingers July 30, 2010 6:21 PM BST
4 in a row the players are paid full time wages and train full time every evening at 5:30. They are full time in everything and i think Rice and Price may not be the only player that plays full time. In all fairness it's laughable that Shamrock Rovers contine with this sharade. How many of the team that took to the field are not full time professional footballers? More fool Shamrock Rovers are to pay full time wages to part time players.

I was not expecting them to beat Juve but i was expecting them to maybe not play such up and under football, to me they are anti football the same as the dutch this type of football may be effective but it does not mean it's good football or good to watch.

To be fair Dazza the only thing good last night were the fans, if we in the GAA had fans like those then the sport may have taken off internationally !!!! It was a sad day for the organisation and Thomas Davis when Shamrock Rovers were allowed into Tallaght. I believe the growth of soccer as our numbers 1 sport has done long term damage to the GAA :(
Report 4 In A Row July 30, 2010 7:59 PM BST
The club pays the players a wage, but as long as it does not affect their Club duties they have no problem with any of them getting employment elsewhere. Some choose not to work. I honestly dontknow how many of them are working elsewhere at the minute.Still dont think you can compare like for like. Cant see Del Piero having to look for a morning delivery job.Maybe it has changed but prior to the summer break they were training 3 evenings a week in Enfield. During the league this season we have been guilty of playing the long ball too much. Recently we have started to play 4-4-2, Our results and football have improved. Think we did the best we could last night.Atmosphere was great, and looking forward to the return Leg.
Report jimeen July 31, 2010 11:19 AM BST
Rocketfingers-You are workrider,a self confessed staunch Shamrock Rovers fan,and an imbecile who thinks that people wont recognise your posting under 2 different user names. The ranting about the GAA and Thomas Davis, plus the inability to spell charade  surely speaks volumes.
