Are you talking about the meter?
It's no use though, anything anybody writes in response to you'll claim they've googled. It's lose lose with you. I seriously doubt you've read all those, perhaps my some genetic miracle you're related to somebody who has. Roddy Doyle audio books are more up your street. |

I think workrider must be clidsexy, that's all.

This is Freeloader's equivalent of Finchy's "throwing".

no , i'll give you a hint , you and a few others on here try and make a laugh of me when i do it . yet it runs through the whole book .
By:
I am amazed you can read Homeric Greek.
By:
That's what's unusual about it is it? It concerns starting wars...go away you sad little timewaster.
By:
but you have just said you only read up to page 154?????????????
By:
With all your ranting and opinions based on your own narrow outlook and experience, you want to call me a time-waster?
By:
why cant you just say you haven't read it you silly daft scunt . we all know what its about , ok then i'll make i simple for you . tell me whats strange about the sentences ? why are they differant than normal ones ?
By:

By:
So what have I allegedly looked up on it?
By:
gotta say wonky you have me beat. i must bow to your superior intellect...
By:
Why don't you enlighten us about what exactly you're on about, I've already asked you if it's about the meter. I'm sure your point is stupid anyway. I can't wait to hear it.
By:
hold on a minute ricky he's gonna accuse you of being me and vice versa...
By:
xerophyte at last , even though your comment is ment to be funny you have hit the nail on the head , in all the years i've been on here i've prayed someone would notice im dyslexic , all those teachers on here and not one of them ever noticed .take a bow my friend , what really worry's me is all those teachers on here and none ever got it , are the children who like me suffer from dyslexia been let down by teachers not noticing their predicament .i dread to think whats been missed in our schools . xerophyte your top of the class mate . all you teachers on here hang your heads in shame .
By:
I've actually read four books of the said work in Greek when I had to. The poem is split into 24 books, one for each letter of the alphabet. So referring to it as a 'book' is a bit strange. And I don't see what you can say is strange about the sentences if you rely on a translation. But no doubt the wise one will lighten my darkness.

By:
no full stops .
By:
Could you possibly expand on that opaque statement?
By:
Oh FFS.
![]() |
By:
What do you mean, "no full stops"?
By:
i'm more confused than ever!
By:
which one the hard to understand or full stops ?
By:
in the book poem there is hardly a full stop to be seen .
By:
I am at one with slickster in my confusion here. Perhaps I need to go and lie down.
By:
Freeloader, maybe you can enlighten us as to the connection between the "unusual" aspect of the Iliad, by unusual you mean it's unusual that a poem doesn't contain full stops which is not unusual, your dyslexia and whatever else you're talking about.
Are you really suggesting you've a superior intellect? |
By:
xerophyte , i have been slated on here over the years for my use of commas and full stops ,especially by teachers yet here's homer doing the very same and none of these clowns notice .
By:
ricky / shyester i hope when you go back to teaching in kindergarden you'll maybe look out for these kids and give them the help they need . instead of coming on here blabbering nonsence alnight long , you are payed too well imo and are not up to the job.
By:
You have to bear in mind that the works of Homer were not actually written at the time but were essentially oral compositions that were written down at a later stage. It is quite possible that at the time of composition there was not even a Greek alphabet. The earliest written Greek, about 700BC, had no breaks between the words and certainly no punctuation at all. It was only later copyists who split the works into books and inserted punctuation and accentuation. So Homer did not miss out any punctuation. In fact it is claimed he was blind!
By:
exactly , thats what i was talking about , very few full stops if any . you would only notice this if you read the book / poem in book form . obviously i only read 150 pages of same but i did notice that . there again i'm sure after reading it so did ricky/shytester

The new front-runner in "Bizarre Thread of the Year"
Debating the grammatical construct of a Greek classic. I've read it all on here now. |
By:
I don't think the grammatical construct bothered workrider as much as the lack of pictures.
By:
We can debate why you think the lack of the full stops is in any way unusual. We can debate why you think it has any relevance to your alleged dyslexia. This thread is a mega fail.
By:
and to think the thread was originally about wonky having 4 tenners on the royal hunt cup!!!!!!
