After yet another day full of jockey injuries at Kilbeggan, something badly needs to be done to make the racecourse safer.

There is going to be another jockey killed there in the not so distance future if something is not done!!

What does everyone think??

Tramore is as bad if not worse, not much you can do about the location of the  tracks and the way the course(s) are laid out if they picked bad locations in the first place.

I ve said it before esp for the saftey of horses it badly needs to be shut down ,people dnt relise how many horses break down there ,media only comment if horses  legs are hanging off ,never abt ones who break dwn not there fault i know but it should be drawn to there attention

The place is a death trap.

spot on!!
kilbeggan is a disaster waiting to happen (again) imo

@Punchestown: Tramore was on Friday and Saturday and there was no serious injuries reported to either horse or jockey!!

Tramore is no doubt the tightest track in Ireland, but yet Kilbeggan is more dangerous.

kilbeggan, killarney, ballinrobe, tramore etc. etc. the country is full of racecourses that are quite simply put not up to the job of serving as racecourses

Jockeys take it easy at Tramore. I suppose running down hill into a bend youhave no choice.
The problem with Kilbeggan is that jockeys ride like loopers. The second last bends is treated like a chicane in formula one with all sorts of moves attempted. Also Kilbeggan lends itself too much to speed. There is no hill to knock the edge off horses.

Personally I love the place and as a punter it is my most profitable track. It is hard to see what to do. On fast ground they go too quick
what can they do put up a speed limit ?

@ donal,Tramore Friday,
--------------
Quiverhill Allstar 14/1 8 11 - 1 P T Enright (3)
P J Colville
87
mid-division, moderate 7th 4 out, no impression approaching 2 out, soon stumbled and pulled up before last, dismounted
-----------------------------------------
8. Hill Of Dyrick 6/1 5 10 - 6 P F Mangan (7)
D A Kiely
-
  mid-division, slipped up after 3rd
------------------------------------------------------Beliar (GER)  12/1 7 11 - 3p B J Cooper (7)
E Doyle
100
chased leaders early, weakened and pulled up before 4 out, dismounted
-----------------------------------------

There were several other falls and pull ups on the Friday which were not included here,Saturday was a flat meeting and some of them were all at sea running here as they were going too fast around the turns,it was plain luck if nobody (horse or rider) showed ill effects after running at this kip.

donal,I'm not disagreeing with you about Kilbeggan, just think we have a few of these death trap tracks that short of closing them down it's a difficult situation to resolve.

there shouldnt be national hunt racing when "firm" is given anywhere in the going
Report donal June 8, 2010 3:03 PM BST
@ Punchestown: I know Tramore is very bad with Horse injuries but they don't seem to get the same amount of jockey injuries as Kilbeggan do.

Plus at least Tramore are trying to do something about it, as they have plans to move racing to another site in the area.

@ grade 1: You definitely have a point there!!

Kilbeggan has an all NH meeting all summer long. The ground is good or better in a normal summer.
Other tracks have mixed meetings in the summer.
So it is obvious there are going to be more falls at Kilbeggan than the other tracks. And with the ground firm injuries will be more so than when the ground is soft.

Now we don't want to go down the Australian route and get rid of Summer jumping do we!!

Hammy, now your specialist subject is telling us how good the biscuits are in Spoils. Stck to that subject please!!!
