I always thought from listening to him he had a very busy social life which has its ills as we all know.
I didnt like his programme many moons ago but grew to like the guy in recent years. He was a very intelligent chap imo.
I met him once and his wife, wife was very nice to me ,

RIP to gerry and condolences to all concerned

I was cycling the bike on Lwr leeson St at 1 pm today and was surprised to see a Fire brigade and a Garda Car and an Ambulance there near CUS.
Little did I realise that it was Gerry Ryan they were attending to.

RIP

I'm pretty sure that Mr. Ryan was not engaging in any sinister acts in the moments leading to his untimely death tbh

He means unless you belong to an iinward looking sect you're the enemy.

And not a normal night out, I'm just at a loss to what could be sinister.

Six pages of coverage in the Indo.

Outbreak of WWII only got four.

Had to love the tearful geezer on the news who hailed him 'the people's person'.

His passing is a tragedy for the family and for those who were truly close to the guy, everyone else needs to get some perspective.

Backwater, of all he posts i read in relation to Gerry Ryan, i would like to agree very much with your post and also to suggest that the aforementioned was getting very well paid for what he did thanks to us the tax payer. Sorry for bringing money into the subject but wasnt he the very man that refused to give up some of his huge salary when wage cuts was on the table, along with Tubridy.

Perhaps Stephen's boyfriend and the third member of that particular party that night would like to enlighten us?

Hear hear.
Sad for his family and friends and may he rest in peace, but in no way was he representative of the people of Ireland.

Relative to the age we live in, not 70 years ago when there was barely 2 newspapers around, it's been fairly muted.

Always when someone diies in their prime the coverage will be big. Not if one dies at 80 odd.

i agrrr with the lads here , while gerry was a legend in radio more than tv and to fair he was good , rte own the publicity machine and its a bit ott , you would get almost as much press n sympathy for a head of state

lads get a grip, the coverage of a death like this is obviously going to be extensive.

perhaps posters here may not have been gerry ryans biggest fans but the size of his listenership and the fact that his death has been the talk of most peoples households and locals all over the country of course the coverage is going to be extensive.

I bet if the media coverage of his untimely death wasnt as it has been some of the same posters would be complaining that it wasnt covered as much. too many people on the blob and just love to moan imo.
