My brother bought a car thursday and got it taxed friday. He is waiting on the insurance disc.
Anyway he was at a do today/tonight and his wife went to collect him in the new car. The do was out towards the red cow and they leave in blanch. She took the car ( which was probadly wrong because the insurance wasn't displayed ). She went through a checkpoint coming of the M50 and they took the car of he and left her standing at the side of the road. She is 5 months pregnant and was trying to explain the circumstances but they wouldn't have a bar of her.
She had to wait at the side of the road for 20 mins on her own while my brother left the function to collect he in a taxi.
My point is these cnuts wouldn't like it if it was there mother/sister/wife etc that was left standing at the side of the road in the dark.
yeah so have I toby but used to take it with a pinch of salt so to speak but my brother is fuming and I can't blame him, some cnuts just love the power buzz

Some of them are absolute pr1cks.....not all of them, but some of them.
Went in to get a passport photo signed a while back and the sour faced cow of a 'woman' behind the counter didn't make it a pleasurable experience.

It's almost certainly the case the Gardaí are under orders from the Sergeant or whoever, which in turn comes down the line, to have zero tolerance in certain areas. Ie find a car with no tax AND no insurance and take it on the spot. It is the case that driving around with DISPLAYING the discs is an offence as well as not having them, I think. Tbh, if I was driving around in a car with no discs and it was taken from me I'd be annoyed but recognise it was an acceptable consequence. It's not as if she was 8 months and bursting. Might be difficult to tell at 5 months!
If it was a checkpoint, surely the checkpoint didn't just get up and move the second the car was seized? There would have been Gardai around?
If so it's not quite the same thing, the other choice in that case is giving her the car back, which as I say they might have been under orders not to.

no problem brave inca. I wasn't there but one of the gardai took the car ( to the pound, by the way it still isn't there ) and the other guard went off in the patrol car. My brother plays GAA and there is a copper that plays in the team, he said he went down to the pound today and the car has not arrived yet lol

Well she was right to be stopped n prosecuted so the issue is should they have left a 5 month prenant woman on the road, They cant leave her drive away uninsured and its not up to the gardai to phone a taxi , its ugly but for the gardai its awkward too

I thought that the normal procedure at these check points when they seize cars is that a recovery truck comes to take the car away and they continue manning the checkpoint.

I haven't been victimised, it didn't happen to me. She was left for 20 mins AFTER the checkpoint was gone ( two gardai ). Apparently it is perfectly normal for a guard to drove the vechicle to the pound ( only found this out today ). I was only relaying what happened, I have nothing to gain, so take what you want out of the thread

Dont know whether the story is true or not but youll hardly come on here with a piece of fiction. Inlaws are in the force and the greatest fcuks seem to deviate to the GS or so they tell me!! Frankly their motorbike corps look for blood based on their cavalier and irresponsible attitude towards other road users when they are babysitting a dignitary. Matter of time b4 one of them cause severe damage with a major cover up to follow.

I've yet to see a Garda escort steam through a residential area, have to say but that aside, they're trained professional motorcycle drivers who do it every day of the week. There was a Garda killed on a charity motorcycle a few years ago, I can't remember that last time there was an accident involving them.

Ricky butcher as far as i know gardai cars have a very high incident rate, theses facts were published a couple of years ago, i dont remember the numbers, garda cars are rammed , in high speed chases and with the high mileage they do the odds they do have a lot of accidents

I'm sure it was an annoying experience but not as traumatic as the OP is making out.
She should have had the insurance disk displayed. If not then she should have left the car at home.I'm sure it was an annoying experience but not as traumatic as the OP is making out.
Not the only one here who found the story strange. There are a lot of arseholds in the Gardaí, I'm just not into slating every one of 14,000 people because I've a chip on my shoulder. As I said if I drove around no discs displayed whatsoever I'd know beforehand what the risks were, ie the car being taken on the spot. I'd know it's a strong possibility if I was stopped. I wouldn't whinge about it after.

Suppose something happened to the woman after the Gardai have left her on the side of the road on her own....suppose she was assaulted or severely injured ...would the Gardai be liable?

or what if an alien spaceship came down and abducted her..those feckin guards.
why didnt yer brother get a taxi instead of dragging his 5 months pregnant wife out of bed in the middle of the night in a car with no insurance disk? maybe hes a guard!!

End of story, if it was an offence or not thats not the case, any decent person let alone a guard should not leave a pregnant woman on the side of the road in the dark!!
I agree Ricky is a guard or he is boning a guard.

Neither is true and far more than me are pointing out that this is a crap non story. Moral of the story: don't get your 5 month old girlfriend to ride out in the middle of the night to collect you in a car with no discs whatsoever then come on and moan about being wronged in some way at a checkpoint supposedly that upped and left about 1 minute after the car was seized. Get a taxi next time.

guard in question probably had no lift home, hence when finishing up shift grab a car and drive yourself home, so car in someones driveway rather than pound.

ricky, trust me on this point. I live pretty close to Aras An Uchtarain and we get a lot of diginitaries being taken at high speed for some reason towards the airport by the motor cycle corps. Now the speed limit on the road close to my home is 50km but when these convoys numbering at least half dozen *****wannabees perform their tricks they are bursting that limit and bullying all other motorists and pedestrians who dare get in their way. Frankly their irresponsible, dangerous and frightening behaviour is the most dreadful activity I've ever witnessed from a group who are supposed to be looking after public safety. This is a terrible thing to say but I sometime wish that one of them has a mishap caused by the excessive speed and then at least their might be some proper review of what exactly they are trying to achieve by their actions.

a lot of people missing the point here. whether the car was insured/not insured /taxed or not or had discs displayed or not and whether the lady was not pregnant/five months pregnant or eight months on the guards should not have left her alone on the m50 or any other road for that matter.if they had to take the car so be it but why not bring her to the station with them where she would have at least been safe and could be collected by her partner/taxi or whatever.the decent thing would have been to bring her home. the guards are paid by the taxpayer to protect the people of the state not put them in danger.hitch hiking is not allowed on motorways for safety reasons and to think that the gardai would leave anyone in this position beggars all reason.

These kind of stories only surprise people who have otherwise always thought the Gardai where always a fair and good organisation all the way through. Other unfortunates knows the other side only too well. They will disrespect you, beat you, lie, cheat you and laugh in force when fining you in court. Do any of these things to them and they will lock you up and make an example of you. Did the woman ask for a lift?

I had a court case for a minor driving incident, the prosecuting Garda was a no show in court and the case was struck out. I got a letter in the post telling me I was fined 250 euro for the offence,I ended up back in the Court with a Judicial review to challenge the fine and subpeonaed the judges book (the one with copies of all the charges) from the day in court and it had S/O on the charge sheet but had been scribbled out by someone[>o].
The Judge fudged it and said my character was unblesmished as I had no convictions (42 years old at the time) and said he couldn't contradict a Garda either and said he couldn't work out how the S/O was scribbled out.
To cut a long story short the Judge rescheduled the case to basically start the whole prosecution again from the start.
I showed up in court(it's now 2 years after the first appearance)the Garda didn't show up-struck out again. . The Garda Ombudesman didn't exist back then

You committed the minor offence not the Guard, thats why you were in court in the first place. What offence did the Guard commit. --------------------------------- The Garda showed up at the Judicial review and swore on oath that he was in the court for the first appearance and I wasn't which was the exact opposite of the truth. So that would be perjury by him (or me if I'm making this all up).I don't know his motive but he was willing to and did swear he was there when he wasn't.
(The minor offence was failure to obey a road signal-an arrow on the road)

Whats your recourse on that punch? You were basically accused of perjury
------------------------------------
Like I said the Judge wouldn't call it either way,I was advised by a Senior Councel that a trip to the High Court was the only recourse if I wanted to take it to the next stage but he said Judges are very reluctant to overturn each others verdicts for obvious reasons and if I lost the case I would have to pay everybody's costs which at the time were about 50K.Nobody ever explained the S/O scribbled out on the sheet.
It ended up struck out for a second time when it was reentered and I never heard another thing,my family Solicitor took the case Pro-bono all the way through as he was a friend of the family for a long time and he knew there was a number being done on me.

Its unfortunate that our legal system is such a horses arse that you'd have to go to that kind of trouble to be justified. I suppose that's part of the reason the Garda was so quick to lie knowing that there was little or no chance of reprecussions.
Your solicitor seems a decent sort, most of them are pompous prats.
