The sport has had it's share of rogues but if this NOTW sting is what it looks like I really think this could be the end for the sport.
Whatever about some of the lower ranked players falling into the gluepot of corruption, for a millionaire multiple world champion and world no.1 to alledgedly be at it is incredible and very sad.
It strikes at the heart of what once was a great sport. It will overshadow today's final too , which was already looking to be a pretty sub standard affair in terms of what snooker needs.
If Higgins (already suspended) is really on the take then I hope they take the correct course of action and ban him for life.
however how silly is he to fall for that kind of sting, its happened to that aussie fella, grobellar, fallon
all by the news of the world, the sneaky baxtards,
300k for throwing 4 frames in some "new" tournament, how did he think they'd get that kind of dust back without arousing serious suspicion

**gykev, the Calzaghe "sting" was terrible but a story like this is actually important and it's important it's exposed. We have nobody like Mazer Mahmoud and his team in Ireland but I'd say he'd be useful over here.

i know that ricky but the good people in snooker didnt need this on their biggest day
it would be akin to releasing a sting on horse racing on grand national day
will be interesting to see how the beeb handle this, either way snooker has now lost a top top player

people will now say he threw that match against davis, rightly or wrongly, that will be the perception, an perception is the bulk of it in an open world
except irish polictics where if you are a co rr upt cu nnt, you top the poll,or a uselss cu nt but the son or daughter of a former TD, you get a seat as well

In fairness its hard to see any defence for Higgins by simply watching the video. He did not have the look of a man under duress. Steve Davis's face said it all at start of coverage today when they discussed-he was almost in tears.

Sadly, it is higgins reputation that is in the gutter along with the notw. No comeback from this, must get a very substantial ban and fine if the game is to retain any semblance of credibility. Worse than the maguire/burnett**last year and that was pretty bad

Yeah he seems terrified all right, didn't volunteer anything, said the bare minimum and didn't further it at all. I believe him 100% now.
From the Guardian:
John Higgins [laughing]: "There is no cameras is there?"
Higgins: "Oh yeah. Frame three I'm going to lose. Yes, yes."
Higgins: "[There's] no risk, because you can miss."
Higgins: "If you start leaving, leaving and leaving chances people are saying, what's happening here? But against other players it's no problem."
Undercover reporter: "I don't know the sport that well, but what I'm saying is that you can miss one, but you can't keep missing them?"
Higgins: "You can. Yeah, yeah, you can.
Undercover reporter: "We agreed four frames during year one, right? We are agreeing the figure now. What is the figure we are agreeing?"
Pat Mooney: "300 ... agreed."
Higgins: "But then I am thinking to myself, how do I swallow 200,000 or 300,000 pounds or euros coming into my account?"
Higgins [to Mooney]: "I have got a property in Spain, I'm thinking to myself. Is there any way, if you got a small mortgage on the property or something and you can pay it off ... would they look me out if you paid it off in a lump sum?"
Undercover reporter: "So, four frames, one per?"
Higgins: "Yep"

I'm banging my head off a desk here. Why do you think it's different? Do you expect John Higgins to come out and say "I did it" or do you think he would try desperately to salvage his career? He'll never earn from snooker again. He'll have no income in life after this. What do you expect him to do?
Honestly. If you can't work out why Higgins would lie then I don't know what to say to you.

So why should snooker be damaged , it may be as the dark smoky pool hall image is still attached

I hope Higgins is innocent as he says he is. However, if he felt that his life was in danger and he was just putting up a front, why didn't he let Barry Hearn or whoever know what was going on? I think if he was innocent, he would surely have let somebody know!

You do know the guy in the meeting in Kiev was English yeah? You've read the article, so surely you know this was organised over a number of months? Not just in Kiev on a one off?
The guy organising the deal in the hotel was English. There was only one other guy in the room who wasn't British.

I'm not, it's just here we have a video of somebody who appears to be caught red handed and people are hanging on to the most flimsy of excuses. It reminds me of the Tribunals.
