Anyone think of an area in Dublin where a good betting shop could be located?

Clontarf sea front. None nearby. Vernons the nearest over a mile away.

The head shop there has just closed down so you could move in there straight away.

The biggest asset for a bookies in Dublin is a free car park cos there aren't many, find a pub with a big car park that don't charge and bob's your tea-pot. Alright ice cream cone ?

i don;t know why anyone would open a betting shop. say expenses run at 10k per week, staff, televisions, rent, subscriptions, given a10% margin you would need to turn over 100k a week just to break level
Report Rowley Mile March 29, 2010 7:24 PM BST
A grand a day max expenses i think.

I always thought the Leopardstown inn was screaming out for a shop beside it.

Brains Lenihan is having a good gamble up on Merrion Street.

I'm purely guessing a figures here but how much is SIS alone ? heating electricity, price feeds, staff, rent. 1k per day seems a bit low to me
Report chopper636 March 29, 2010 8:03 PM BST
Apparently its about 2200 euro per month for Sis plus turf Tv. Lets say another 1800 per month on rent. 2 staff at a combined 3000 per month Heat electricity and rates another 1500. That is 8 grand a month and im sure there is extras that I have not included so lets say 2 grand Miscellaneous. Thats 10 grand a month has to be found

Report chopper636 March 29, 2010 9:32 PM BST
Looks hard work to be honest and I wouldnt fancy it in this climate, unless you had 5 or 6 on the go already.
Report MAESTRO OF SWORDS March 29, 2010 9:55 PM BST
Try open a mobile bookies

if you cut costs down to the bone, you can probably find run a shop at with 600 a day expenses including the tax, given that you will be doing well to get 10% given BOG, extra place concessions and the like you will need to turnover 6k a day. Good luck

Shops normally target working class poor areas. I think the socio-economic group is CDE1 or something like that
Report Cupwinkcook April 1, 2010 10:34 PM BST
the worst location I've seen is Jameson Racing in a shopping between Coolock and Beaumont.

Dunno if it's still trading.
