PRESIDENT MARY McAleese and her officials were left red-faced last night after it was learned that remarks she made on Tuesday night in Turkey linking that country with Drogheda were based on local myth and not fact.
The comments were made during a state dinner in the capital, Ankara, as part of a four-day official visit.
Mrs McAleese told VIP guests Turkey had helped Ireland during the Famine. She said:
I was more annoyed about the bit were she said we would welcome Turkey into the Eu, would we F**k!!!
spot on downallstar, i would say less than 20% of the irish electorate would concur with that view, so the president stepped way outside her remit with that little ditty.

i doubt we're in the best position to be telling the EU who we would like to be let in, apart from our dismal economy had we not ratified Lisbon there was a strong chance they would have booted us to touch or carried on without our approval
