Not looking good - 16.5 here. I believe he'd a bit of a setback two weeks ago but hadn't assumed it was very seriously, wrongly it seems.

I would just like to know, this lack of info about what looks a very unlikely runner is really pi$$ing me off!

From what i know he is out. Gutted.

As of ten days ago it was touch and go I heard. But with a 4 year old why rush him. I completely agree that WP should have more respect for Ante post punters I know for a fact that there was a problem 10 days ago. Fair play to Alan King very honest and up front
Report ChildOfMine2 March 2, 2010 3:17 PM GMT
This drift happened a few days ago and nothing came of it. His price is getting back to normal here now.
Report rooste March 2, 2010 3:24 PM GMT
13/1 for 259 quid aint normal for a horse that is a general 7/1 chance.
Report McK30wn March 2, 2010 3:39 PM GMT

Ring Eamon Duignan in Navan Shopping Centre.... tell him you want to take a retail unit off him and say "by the way any word on Secant Star and Barker while your at it"

Alavian looks nailed on imo provided the ground not riding fast ...Barizan a lively outsider at 40's
Report downallstar March 2, 2010 4:06 PM GMT
Mille Chief confirmed as a nr!
Report Dark Destroyer March 2, 2010 4:36 PM GMT
Throughout the last few days Alan King has kept punters fully advised of Mille Chief's problems. It would be decent of Willie to do the same if Secant Star has met with a setback - what can he lose?

would be nice to know either way.usually these wild fluctuations arnt good news..i hope it runs tho!!

spoke to WP Mullins there. All systems go for Triumph, seemed to suggest the setback didn't amount to much, but has a worry about one aspect of his profile - more in the paper Sunday.

Report downallstar March 5, 2010 5:37 PM GMT
I backed it ew at a 12s because of 3 reasons
1. Poor renewal
2. Seems to prefer better ground
3. Willie's record in the race.

Also backed Carlito B & Advisor, and have a free bet on Barizan at silly odds.
Report keen leader March 5, 2010 5:41 PM GMT
one of the brightest long term prospects in the race, unlikely to win as he totally lacks on the count of experience and if he jumps like he did at gowran he will beat himself.

WM is hardly going to go to a paper and write up a will win piece. Secant start is missing one run, thats main issue but from what I hear tis lad is a serious animal and when you hear that from this yard then I'd take note. He is not as short as 8's for nothing and connections have nots of horses with the yard and this lad is suppose to be a super start. I would be against him on trends, etc but on wht I hear I will back him blind - cant question what the stable opinion is on the orse, simple as that

Triumph hope Secant Star back on course

BY TONY O'HEHIR 6:01PM 7 MAR 2010

SECANT STAR, as short as 6-1 with Boylesports for the JCB Triumph Hurdle, worked on Saturday following a minor setback and remains on course for the Cheltenham Festival event for which he is third favourite.

His trainer Willie Mullins said on Sunday: "Secant Star gave himself a bit of a bang and was held up for a few days, but he has worked a couple of times since.
"Katie Walsh rode him work on Saturday morning and all seems to be well. He will work a couple of times this week and if all stays right with him then he will be heading for the festival."

Secant Star was a seven-length winner of a maiden hurdle at Gowran Park in January, having fallen at the last when clear on his hurdling debut at Leopardstown's Christmas meeting.
Report Swinia March 7, 2010 7:28 PM GMT
from what i hear Mullins two best shots supposed to be umihiraceathir and flat out for chelt.... not sure this fellow has the class a weak renewal.....Barizan a ridicioulsy price for c&d winner and already rated 140 with improvement to come...personally and publicly Evan Williams believes it has a great chance....

EMI must be admired for using the NUJ pass to gain vital info for his own ante post book ;-) hats off

Report Cheers For Thea March 12, 2010 6:37 PM GMT
Advisor has been well-backed for the JCB Triumph Hurdle admid strong speculation Ruby Walsh will ride him in preference to Secant Star.

Paul Nicholls' charge has won both his starts over timber under Walsh, but until Friday had been a longer price than his Willie Mullins-trained rival for the Cheltenham showpiece.

However, Sky Bet have cut Advisor to 15/2 from 10s with Secant Star out to 8s from 7s.

Spokesman Matt Doyle said: "The weight of money for Advisor suggests Ruby (Walsh) will be riding him at Cheltenham. We've seen plenty of bets for him on Friday while Secant Star continues to be weak in the run-up to Cheltenham."
Report awesome impact March 12, 2010 6:52 PM GMT

sorry, update today and only on PC now, Ruby rides nichols, heard this morning, the star missed 2-3 weeks and may be slightly short but its a tough call and ruby went safe - I honestly think it was not a confident call, I'd be happy to go with secant anf PT on board, he still has more potential than any other in the race and only reasn RW not rding it down to feeling if he is fully fit or not, my view is he wouldnt be going if we was way off so i'll stick with the star
Report kavvie March 13, 2010 8:50 PM GMT
i hear secant doesnt jump good enough to win the triumph.
Report rooste March 13, 2010 9:01 PM GMT
Jumping aint a prob in Triumph. If you can jump adequately you are ok 2 hurdles in last mile with a near 5 furlong run to the last
Report santa concerto March 14, 2010 11:34 AM GMT
you wouldnt have walsh getting off this if the reports on here were correct. very strange/ even with a setback .
Report santa concerto March 14, 2010 11:41 AM GMT
as you say an mhi paul townend is excellent so that doesnt affect its chance.
Report An Mhi March 14, 2010 11:52 AM GMT
absolutely not, its a poor race, top two very much beatable, CB didnt for me look impressive beating ultimate, form not worked out, O Grady horse is tiny, not sure what engine is really there and looks like the day could get to him, may not go left handed, so I think S Star has more potential than these, he jumps fine for me, mistake at leop is well known what happened, and for me is still the bet fo the race, PT will have no problem passing Ruby, just like he did at Naas on Ballytrim, I dont rate nichols horse at all, second last day barnwell could not win next time out. WM has a good record in the race too so heres hoping
