RARE BOB, as short as 12-1 for the Byrne Group Plate Handicap Chase at Cheltenham, was on Tuesday described by trainer Dessie Hughes as unlikely to make the Cheltenham Festival. Rare Bob also holds an entry for the Ryanair Chase, but Hughes said: "He's been out of sorts and we were only able to get one run into him, so Cheltenham will come too quick." The eight-year-old features among 17 entries for Sunday's Lucan Racing Leinster National Handicap Chase at Naas, but Hughes has yet to decide whether to run last season's Grade 1-winning novice chaser. backed it das, thought he should have kicked earlier :( was there today went and had a look at them in the paddock for the 4.0 really liked the look of ballytrim and went to back it ,as i was about to place my bet a guy standing near me said that ballytrim was as big as a house .let myself be talked out of the bet and backed ruby instead :( . i still cant belive it . backed angus house pig is the word that springs to mind .

Quick Synopsis/Ear to the ground
Massive crowd. Tom Ryan will be delighted. Tipper Road car park full before the first race. Never have I seen that in a long time. Race 1) Whodoyouthink. (5/4) Marvellous come back for Kevin Coleman on his first ride back. An Mhi was right. Class told. Silver friend would have been 2nd with a better jump at the last. Good run on on only his 2nd hurdles outing. Morning price of 15/8 winner not sighted. 5/4 best at the off. Not one bookie going 11/8 at the off. Race 2) Zaarito. (4/7). Won as expected. Most improved jockey of the season Davy Condon got it really jumping. Morning Price 8/11 not sighted. Not one bookie going 8/13 at the off. Race 3) Dancing Tornado (12/1). Another winner for that ace tipster Gary O'Brien who recommended 1 pt at 20/1. Talented teenager Adrian Heskin really shone. Fistoulig (9/2jf) made too many mistakes to get competitive. Race 4) Ballytrim (8/1). Another one for the layers. Not even W P in his Racing Post column really fancied it. Race 5) Seeability (11/2) This was always travelling best. 11/4 was his best price in running with a mile to go. Great tipping up here lads. Angus House (1/1f) didn't get the run of the race. Martin Ferris got in Ruby's way when he was going to go inside and then again when he attempted to go wide. However he said he would have got 2nd otherwise. W P said he is no world beater. He will try a few more hurdles and then go chasing which will be more his forte. Race 6) Jack The Bus (5/1) Very well backed in the AM (9/1). Came from last to first to win well to complete a week-end double for Robbie Power. Race 7) A Fine Young Man (3/1) A very enterprising ride by Champion Amateur Patrick Mullins in making all on this newcomer. The word beforehand was that Snurge gets a lot of slow boats but they keep going. As a result young Patrick made full use of his stamina. Seafield (4/1) ran on well to be second. Some seasoned judges reckon he lay too far out of his ground. Andlau (20/1) prominent all the way kept on for 3rd. Young Paric Roche reckons there is a bumper to be won with him at a stiff track Naas/Navan. Oscars Well (11/10f) was the disappointment of the race. Connections were baffled by this performance. Asides. Sign of the Times. 1) Saw Tom Taaffe driving the horse box to the races. 2) Putting the free Sunday Indos into the car after the 3rd race and to see Noel Meade's lady horsebox driver only arriving with the one horse for the day and owned by himself. |
