If you go to Chester races there are two lads from Greystones who won't be beaten world wide with their steaks. They are only 5 minutes from the track!! A lovely restaurant.
Shanahan's on the Green (nap) if money isn't a concern.
FXB's (nb) if you wanna keep the bill respectable.

Drogheda is now a suburb of Dublin, The Monasterboice Inn (Donegans to locals) is indeed fantastic for steak and scampi. Huge portions , good quality and prices, premises pretty average. Just off the M1 north of Drogheda.
Roly's on Dun Laoghaire pier does a decent steak, and also some quality jenga-like *****
Has to be FXB - my mouth waters at the prospect of another trip there. You can almost choose the cow you want to eat there! Fabulous spot
EL PASO SOMEWHWERE UP THE HILL IM TOLD THAT DOES THE FINEST FILLET STEAKS ON THE NORTHSIDE.WE WILL START OF WITH SPINACH AND ONION SOUP,FOLLOWED BY STEAK,FRIED MUSHROOMS,FRIED ONIONS AND THE BEST WEDGES AROUND WASHED DOWN WITH PITCHERS OF HEINEKEN(THE GIRLFRIEND DOESNT LIKE THE WINE SO WE WILL STAY ON THE HEINO).TABLE BOOKED FOR 6.30 SO WILL LET YOU ALL KNOW HOW I GET ON TOMORROW!
For a steak Northside thats reasonable price I'd try Celestines in Donnycareny it's a great little spot. If money's no object Cruzzo's Malahide is lovely if a bit farty and Breakers Malahide is also good with some decent boozers around.
Aqua in Howth is another really decent place but again a bit pricy. Great for fish too if you're that way inclined.
Reades-store street-shocking omission on my part.....
Know it's not Dublin but there's a place called Hannigan's in Cashel (Tipperary) well worth a try - yet to have a better steak myself !
Good spot down on the Howth Road, The Stockyard. It's just beyond Harry Byrnes, on the left hand side before the raileway bridge, on the site of the old Holybrook Hotel.
They serve a great steak and very reasonable for lunch - 30 quid for decent 4 course.
Hannigan's has been sold recently but it hasn't 'changed hands' yet. For what it's worth, IMO their steaks are top notch.
Was dining in FXB'S last night. Didn't go for the steak as i thought it was a bit expensive at 18 euro. Went for the beef and guinness pie instead and i would recommend it highly. The jockeys whips were also very nice
Gonna try that kates cottage. Was a dodgy spot when I was last around there but have been told elsewhere that it has improved alot. Would one have to book a table in advance.
Well steak lovers.....Its that time again-the Sunday countdown-the most up to date list off steak ate'in in Dublin!! 1.Radio city(Can this keep up the pace for another week and will the extra 2oz make or break it?!) 2.El Paso(Rave reviews bout the jockey whips fires it into no.2 spot) 3.Fxb's(Up in 3 spot for quantity if not quality of reviews-will be checking out myself this week) 4.Waterloo(Abba had a song bout it-good enough for me!) 5.Fagan's(How many other countries would have their great leaders favourite steakhouse and watering hole only in spot no.5??) 6.JD's Terenure(more familiar with the drink myself but good reviews so no.6 spot it is) 7.Del Rio's(Pineapple rings on the side-what more needs to be said?!) 8.Stockyard,Howth(would have thought the fish would be good up this way but looks like the steak ain't bad either) 9.Grand Central(O'connell st is no champs elysee but i challenenge any maison de bifteck to match this gafs fine steak...) 10.Shanahans(hangs onto the 10 spot cos of rep alone....if your listening shanahans u can boosh on up the top 10 if u give me the chance to sample your fine cuisine-im free any night this week and +1 would be great.....)
Ryans in Rathhoath village Unreal steaks and you will see all the Carberrys propping up the bar to boot!!!!!!!
EL PASO - Number 1
La Stampa on Dawson street do a fine fillet steak. It was frowned upon when I asked for it well done. Otherwise it was superb. More mate less Veg and you cant go wrong by the way I wasn't paying very pricey
Fire Restaurant on Dawson Street provides a quality steak or 5
Likidos just off Jollop street does a mean steak for around 11 bob.
Temple Bar "American Dinner Run Down" 1. Elephant 2. Bad Ass Cafe 3. Hard Rock Cafe
i had the sirloin steak in peoploes on the green last night and it was top notch At 29e is aint cheap, but worth every penny. Should be in the top 10 IMO
Lads was in Canters in Fairview last night on a date. The night didn't get off to a good start because I wanted to watch the golf but my lack of action recently forced me to go out. I ordered the Char-grilled sirloin steak served with peppercorn sauce and caramelised onion filled field Mushroom which was lightly cooked and very tasty. My friend was enthused by her medallions of fillet beef, which melted endearingly over her plate as she cut into it. All in lads this was an unpretentious restaurant with delightful service. Should be in the top five. Tiger wasn't the only one who couldn,t find the hole last night as it cost me a 1er and all I got was a kiss and a cuddle. We should start a thread on best place to pull in Dublin!!!!!
Anyway I digress, ended up in Cafe Provence; had the Mussels for starters and the sirloin for mains, washed down with a nice Merlot. It was top notch had it with the garlic butter as the liver pinched me when I considered the pepper sauce. Was excellent value for money!! Top notch, all ye steak lovers should check it out!!
Had a superb steak at Deer Park Hotel in Howth a few weeks ago, inexpensive 3 star Hotel and reataurant, but a bit out of the way.
Went to Peploe's on Stephen's Green on Thursday night. Incidentally I misheard others talking on Thursday morning, and only caught the bit about Stephen's Green, which led me to hope we'd be going to Shanahan's. But Peploe's it was, and it didn't dissapoint. A couple had rabbit, pork and John Dory were also picked, but it didn't take me long to decide on the steak. Claiming itself as a 10oz sirloin rather than a fillet, it was clearly a fine cut of fillet, and arrived pretty much as you expect medium to arrive. Some mixed leaves under it, a delicious red wine jus with very finely chopped onions on top, and sides were mash and roasters. Tender and pink on the inside, I struggled to complete the task but got there in the end. Will probably go back there out of my own pocket; turned out to be less expensive than I was expecting.
Had a world champion steak in the Auld Triangle, Macroom on Saturday night. The group ordered 9 steaks - luckily for me 8 ranged from well done to medium-well done. I was the only rare in the party. Jaysus... I'm drooling now thinking about it. When you order rare you get the best & I'd say the chef was also unsure that he was going to get the rare bit right so I got the biggest steak you've ever seen. We could have sailed down the Sullane River on it. Done to perfection... although I would have prefered more blood, it did manage to turn the salad red which is good enough. I finished the steak but left some salad behind.
if nobody has mentioned coolquay loadge on the way home from fairyhouse then the thread is shambolic....beautiful steak
shanahans the celler - really good food chapter one fxb's (very reasonably priced) le bistro odessa bang cafe
The spur steakhouse in liffey vally is a shocking ommision-had the bestest sirloin and ribs just before i went to see Spiderman yesterday. Great value, superb taste and it means you don't have to waste your bob dillons on popcorn and maltesers! spiderman not great this time round
FXB steakhouse - South Dublin City. a good but pricey bit of meat.....
They'd nearly charge you for putting salt on the *****

Anyone can cook good steak. Invested ina griddle pan a while back and a great investment. Give the steak a light brush with oil before putting onto a smoking pan. Obviously time to preference ;)
