Surely the least exciting bumper year in living memory. Usually something is well touted at this stage.
Report borovichi February 1, 2010 10:25 AM GMT
Yes thats why i like Elegant Concorde strongly.
Willie had 7 with chances last year and rite of passage still went off 3/1 fav. Elegant Concorde win or lose will start 5/2 or 3/1 fav.
Report Major Rumpus February 1, 2010 10:29 AM GMT
Wouldnt be surprised if Elegant Concorde was only 2nd string weld horse after Hidden universe.
Report downallstar February 1, 2010 10:37 AM GMT
I would because he's only going to run one of them.
Report Major Rumpus February 1, 2010 10:44 AM GMT
Ok. Which one?
Report borovichi February 1, 2010 10:49 AM GMT
Hidden Universe is only a 4year old.
I heard from the DKWeld team that Elegant is the one that will run and Hidden Universe goes for the bumper at Punchestown.
Report downallstar February 1, 2010 10:50 AM GMT
Yep UT.
He kept UT back last yr as he was only a 4yo and he had Rite of Passage. Looks to be the same deal with UT & HU this year.
Report Major Rumpus February 1, 2010 11:04 AM GMT
Last year Rite of Passage went to Naas at the end of Feb & started 7/2 in what was effectively a match. Before he won that day (only 3 weeks b4 Chelt) there wasnt a peep about Chelt for him. i have no idea what price he was prior to that run but suspect 20/1. Point is plans can change.

THe winner of the bumper in Newbury on Jan 29th, the Gary Moore trained Dragon's Roost, has been the most impressive winner of a bumper this season. First time out beat a Henderson hotpot, (which i had word was highly thought of) by 6 lengths pulling a distance cdlear of 3rd. He'll do for me.

WPM Jan 29th -

We should have some useful maiden hurdlers and bumper horses to come out over the course of the next month as well, so theres plenty to look forward to now.

Drumbaloo or John Kielys mare have the best form to date.

RoP was 8/1 with Bet265 on 05-Mar last year, just 6 days before the race so your probably not far off there.

He was 14/1 generally before his win at Naas
Report downallstar February 1, 2010 12:49 PM GMT
Up Ou That & Shannon Spirit the two that stand out in Saturdays bumper at Naas, which has throw up 2 winners in recent yrs, as well as the fav & 3rd last year- Rite of Passage.

Bit surprised that On His Own is not being quoted by any firms. Appeared well fancied for his debut and duly obliged. I know it was over further but thats no bad thing because he travelled all the way and it means he should get home up the hill.
Anybody know anything about his participation?

Some Targets conqueror from Leopardstown at Christmas, On His Own, was sold by Oliver McKiernan to Howard Johnson for 240,000 at Brightwells Sale at Cheltenham after racing yesterday.

Cheers DI. Pricey, but he looked a horse with a future to me.

I back DKWs horses blindly at Cheltenham because he is such a great trainer but the wise among you will know he has a dreadful record at Cheltenham. No make that ABYSMAL.Therefore Elegant Concorde has no chance-love its breeding though.

think his last festival winner was rare holiday in the triumph ,must be twenty years ago.rite of passage may well be the one to improve his stats, could even have two on the wednesday if elegant concorde flies home in the bumber. like dublin buses ,wait all day for one and two arrive together.
Report Deep Impact February 14, 2010 3:04 PM GMT
On His Own's beating of Some Target (& his beating of Ballyburke) given a boost there

When is the last date for qualifying for the Chel bumper please?
Report BJG February 15, 2010 4:43 PM GMT
Champion Bumper:

Report soapp February 15, 2010 4:46 PM GMT
Cheers BJG. Another two week-ends for the WP stable to fire some ammo at it.
Report BJG February 15, 2010 4:48 PM GMT
Wat ever he runs in de race Wednesday could be of interest imo

3 enteries all running in jackies name. sign of the times we live in , owners in scarce supply.
Report Trent Reznor February 16, 2010 10:53 AM GMT
The most interesting trend of winners on the Cheltenham Bumper is the number of times they had raced before winning the race.
6 of the last 10 had run 3 times (Monsignor, Liberman, Missed That, Total Enjoyment, Cork All Star, Dunguib)
1 had run 4 times (Hairy Molly)
1 had run twice (Pizarro)
2 had run only once (Joe Cullen & Cousin Vinny).

Horses that have run 3 times make up a much smaller % of total runners than those that have run only once or twice.

However, all of WPM's winners (Wither or Which, Florida Pearl, Joe Cullen, Alexander Banquet & Cousin Vinny) except Missed That, had only raced once.

So the thing to do seems to be to concentrate on once raced WPM runners & those that have raced 3 times.
Report race leader February 16, 2010 2:48 PM GMT
Cant even find his runner tomorrow, allee Garde on any antepost cheltenham bumper markets, could this be the one, or is the Mullins number one going to be Up ou that, looking a bit late for Quaquo de flotte, as not entered up anyhwere.
