I think its a decent bet imo - Ireland will be well up for this, first game in the defence of their crown!

The provinces have been in good form in the HC - would expect Ire to win by 25+, an early try an they'd be well on their way!

Sergio Parisse a massive loss for Italy too
Report Clerkmore February 5, 2010 1:50 PM GMT
I agree. They won 38-9 in Rome last year. I thought that they should be able to give away 20 points easily.

Parisse is a massive loss for Italy.

I would nt get too carried away Italy tend to be very sticky in their opening games and Ireland are bound to be rusty
Report Doyler1987 February 5, 2010 2:12 PM GMT
Game only opened up in the last 20mins or so if I remember correctly.
Report throughother February 5, 2010 2:20 PM GMT
wouldnt touch it
Report ChildOfMine2 February 5, 2010 2:51 PM GMT
Think we will struggle in the first half so I'd be sceptical about backing Ireland -20. Maybe Italy +20 is the bet.
Report all over February 5, 2010 2:57 PM GMT
plus 21 laddies

2nd half handicap @10/11 (-11) looks the best bet in this to me.Expect the physical italians to put it upto us in 1st half but they will loose thir discipline in last 20 mins once thet are beaten and expect the irish boys to run in a few late tries
Report LeinsterBeliever February 5, 2010 3:14 PM GMT
Good shout winner alirght. I'd go with that
Report Biodiesel February 5, 2010 3:25 PM GMT
looks a sucker bet, price aint great

winners bet looks better but u have to be careful of late Italian consolation try

Anytime try scorer????
Report redroar February 5, 2010 4:12 PM GMT
This Ireland team are ruthless and dont do consulation tries, remember how they finished against France and Italy last season.
Report itcanbedone February 5, 2010 4:17 PM GMT
Winner's bet a far better proposition, as everyone has alluded to.

Wouldn't touch the headline act with a bargepole. Pure guessing.
Report redroar February 5, 2010 5:10 PM GMT
Forum concesus will surely mean disaster

I'm one too BTW

Its a new season we can only really be guessing how good this team can start their defense.
Report itcanbedone February 5, 2010 6:38 PM GMT
Main problem with a 2nd half bet is that Kidney disrupts the rhythm by resting a few of the bigger guns given that France only 7 days away.
Report padlock February 5, 2010 6:51 PM GMT
wont make -20 imo
Report Winner alright!!! February 5, 2010 7:41 PM GMT
13/8 with Laddies on any Italy players to get a yellow card looks a good price to me considerin their disciplinary record
Report ricky butcher February 6, 2010 10:02 AM GMT
Wait for late action on the HC. If they run up an early score so be it but sometimes you can get a v nice price between 30-60 mins.
Report Irishlad2 February 6, 2010 12:15 PM GMT
ricky is spot on. Think they will comfortably cover the handicap but think there may be a better price. If we can't beat italy by 20+ points at home, there is no chance of retaining the title.
Report Doyler1987 February 6, 2010 2:07 PM GMT
Good call winner alright.

winner of the "early trumpet" award. Gambling gods work against such early calls imo
Report Clerkmore February 8, 2010 1:06 PM GMT
23-3 with 4 minutes to go until half time, they were certainties to cover the handicap then Kearney commits hari-kari!

They were sh1te in the second half as if that late first half try affected them.
Report Upthewaterhill February 8, 2010 1:18 PM GMT
When there is no Bonus Point in operation covering big handicaps is risky business.
