Into 16s for the Gold Cup. WTF!? He wouldn't be a good bet at 160 to 1. Massively over-hyped, he better hope he has Horner Woods to beat. Joncol will trounce him on Sunday again too.

Not my price but you will see a very different Cooldine on Sunday. I dont think different tactics on Joncol will matter. Book shows two runs at the trip and beaten twice.

I see he's quoted at 12/1 with some firms. It can only be down to the Willie Mullins factor cos he wouldn't lace Kauto's or Denman's hooves on his novice form!

Wins on Sunday imv.
Valid excuses for his two runs since the RSA.
He sat up near Carruthers of that brutal pace and still kept on to the line, not concerned about Horner Woods being 2nd, because he was a distant 2nd, and sat of the pace for most of the race to stay on through beaten horses.

COM - Without checking I'm fairly sure he was given a better rating for his RSA win than Denman!?
He had by far the best novice chase form last yr, don't see why all the knockers are out for him now.

I think the Mullins Hennessy factor should also come into play Sunday. Although he was clearly fancied last time!
By:

When: 03 Feb 10 12:18
Was he not rated 160 after the RSA and Denman 161? Just think he won a poor renewal of the RSA, okay albeit easily, but he's done nothing apart from that. Until he proves himself this season, the jury is out!

Sorry EMI but Cooldine will be much better come sunday and will emerge as the 3rd best candidate for the Gold cup

Apparently a different horse. WM never had him better. 20s was too big imo.

COM - a whole 1lbs between them on Official Ratings! On R.P.Rs Cooldine 170 & Denman 167 for their RSA's.

Hardly surprising he bombed out at Punchestown after the RSA, and scoped bad after the Lexus, jurys out - maybe. Writing him of as some sort of hype horse - i don't think so!
By:

Well we'll know Sunday and there's no doubting that the Hennessy is a weaker race than the Lexus!

I think he is grossly, grossly flattered by his RSA run.

Prior to his Rsa run he beat the arke winner. This is a big old fashioned chaser who just gallops all day yes he was built for the RSA but he did demolish that field. Mullins horses were not firing around time of the Lexus, If he wins on Sunday he would have to be a candidate for 3rd place.
By:

EMI - can't agree with that. If he had been given a hold up ride and ran on through tired horses fair enough, but he was up there all the way.
And what about his Dr P J Moriarty win? The 1-2-3-4-5 are all pretty decent animals, Tranquil Sea the only one yet to win a G1 over fences(won G1 over hurdles) from the five.

I'm finding this thread amusing...i couldn't believe the money for Cooldine in the Lexus, this was a false gamble. Mullins never hide the fact that he was far from happy with the horse and told anybody who asked not top touch him.

Everybody is guessing that he will return to the form of old and we'll only really know after the race on Sunday. IMO both he and Joncol are worth taking on.

It could well be another false gamble and he will drift alarmingly on the day... by right he should be a 4-1 shot or bigger based on his last two runs

Could fast run out of horses to take on, every single one of them has an "excuse" of some sort.

Cooldine - Wasnt right last time. Whats he done bar Cheltenham though? But if he comes back to it, the race is here on a plate.
Joncol - Got tactics wrong last day. Hes a fair horse and should pick up a few races like these. Doesnt scream "top class" though at the moment.
Money Trix - Is he good enough for a Gold Cup? Probably this one, just about. If they go a real fast gallop and he doesnt get too far back he'll finish strongly, but he seems a pure stayer type.
Notre Pere - Shown up in England, another I'd question 'is he good enough' for a Gold Cup. Very alike to Money trix.
Schindlers Hunt - Not good enough for a Gold Cup.
In Compliance - Injury plagued.
Made In Taipan - Thought he was a 2 miler?
Jy Vole - Not good enough.

Its an awful field for the race.. hope Joncol wins because at least he has the scope to improve a bit. Or maybe Cooldine comes back to form. Lets be honest, whatever happens the winner might as well up his feet up in front of the fire than get the boat to take on Kauto and Denman.

Ive always been a huge Cooldine fan since his early days (think i'm 4 from 4 as regards punting so it obviously helps!!). My current view on him is that in the RSA he ran the race of his life and went to the very bottom of the barrel. It looks like the race has taken it's toll and he hasn't looked the same since (like a lot of previous winners). The horses down the field like What A Friend couldn't live with him in March and the race was over 7 out and they had easier races while he must have been wrecked after it. If you look at his punchestown run he never travelled with any purpose and had problems in the autumn before making an inaspicious return in the Lexus. Now i've no doubt that willie will eventually get him back into some sort of form but as it stands at the minute he must be taken on in the Hennessy against more solid betting propositions

Joncol is absolutely bullet-proof in my view.
By:
Allduckornodinner
When: 03 Feb 10 13:42
Well I couldn't call him bulletproof with the Nolan stable form since the big freeze and the fact that he has beaten whenever he has faced with the trip (fair enough you can call it jockey error last time but at the same time if he was much the best horse then he would have won it anyway). Probably a race to watch for me . . . there is jam to be got elsewhere sunday anyway ;)

I am a big Joncol fan too, backed him in the lexus, and would expect him to reverse with Money Trix, but think he'll be looking at Cooldine's rear end at the finish.

This is an open enough race and more competitive than some renewals, agree with Matt Chapman though, we should just enjoy this race on its own, and not worry about it as a GC trial(unless Cooldine hacks up by 25L ;) )

Of no relevance whatsoever to the Gold Cup. Paul Nicholls will train the first three in that.

Cooldine at 7/4 makes this a race to bet in. Why should we trust the word/vibe over what we saw on the track only a month ago?

On the Lexus result you'd have to wonder why Money Trix is third in this time round (behind two horses he beat there). All he did was stay last time (looked very one-paced) but in the context of a heavy-ground three-miler all he may need to do is stay. Russell will know him better.

he raced close to a strong gallop for most of the way, putting the rest to the sword fully 1m out. The most flattered horse in the race was the one u use to knock Cooldines achievement

Fair play to you EMI, your putting yourself out there to be shot down with your forthright views on the race. Personally I wouldnt be a layer of Cooldine and am prepared to give him a chance to prove himself on Sunday.

I'd agree with EMI, Joncol on what hes done for the season has the most solid chance. Runs are there and just made a bit too much use of him the last day, took edge of him at the end. People under estimate the finish at leop, thats a slog around last corner. Remember Beef came from no where to win it. Cooldine bet is pure guessing - hasnt run a race since chelt right stable to get him right but your hoping he's back in form. its between 2nd and 3rd form last day and if Joncol can trvael quietly he'll win and will have too much toe in end for trix. Dont forget, this is first year Joncol is right, he's still very young and could easily still be improving and has got better with each run this year so far. JONCOL to storm home
