That's good to hear. She was 3's with spoils on sunday but iI said i'd wait a few days just incase of late injury or something. Went on again anyway and the prices were gone. Wasnt' going to go mad cos I don't know much bout coursing but a ton would have been grand. Hopefully she goes and wins it anyway. They thought she'd have won oaks last year for injury after the first round

Great game that coursing,if your dog is a million in the final then you can tell them its injured and get half your money. No final again, how do people go to this rubbish.

i stand corrected.i apologise...but its still a great sport
By:

When: 03 Feb 10 15:22
You've nothing to apologise for especially to someone whose only interested in bad mouthing the sport there's always confussion when this accurs the oaks final was divided in '07 between qualityandgold and chubby's accord as they were owned by the same connections but greyhounds are examined by vets if connections feel there are not deemed fit to course, trust me Ian Reilly would have ran Needy if she had been right and Johnny Carroll did not want to win an oaks like this... Regarding the halfing of stakes i'm not all for it as it's too the bookmakers benefit particually when it comes to quarter betting. If a hound is withdrawn... the punter shouldn't suffer. if a horse is pulled up in a horse race it's tough titty methinks the same should apply in coursing!!
By:
galway59
When: 03 Feb 10 15:43
No problem all over,i have been coursing a few times and this dividing is a whole heap of shiite. If she was genuinely injured then fair enough, but why not let the beaten semi finalist contest the final, its not as if it would be problematic. There should be a winner on merit, and as the previous poster says its a bit of a damp squib for the connections of the winner if theres no final.

To settle a query please.

A) Are the finals today

B) Or are they in the morning before the horse racing begins later in the day.

Cheers.

Blades of glory broke her leg. Think she will be ok though. I heard the place went silent all of a sudden when she went down. Horrible game at times.

COUNTY Galway trainer Gerry Holian had a day to remember at Clonmel on Wednesday when he won the Boylesports.com Derby with Adios Alonso, while he had earlier supplied both the winner and runner-up in the final of the Champion ** Stake.

Holian, who had previously won the Derby with Murtys Gang back in 2002, had been confident in the build up to the National Meeting that he had the Derby winner in his care and the massively built son of Jenny Mac Aroo and Eoin Bui did him proud.

In the final he was opposed by the Donal Leahy trained Mafi Magic and, after a close first hundred yards, Adios Alonso then asserted and took the vital opening turn by a length to a tremendous roar from the huge crowd that thronged Powerstown Park.

The winner, a January pup, had qualified at Castletowngeoghegan and was running in the ownership of the Holian/ Maher/ OSullivan Syndicate.

There was an anti-climax in the Hotel Minella Oaks where the favourite Needham Time was announced as a non-runner just as the final was about to go upfield. She had sustained an injury in the semi and trainer Ian Reilly and owner Brendan Keogh had no option but to withdraw her.

This cleared the way forthe Liam Lynch and Seamus Begley owned Lisloose Accord to be declared the winner. It was a first classic victory for trainer Johnny Carroll and it was thoroughly deserved though one would have liked to see the final run.

great coursing except why did they allow all the betting to take place on the final multiples before announcing thr withdrawal of needham made things messy especially for bookmakers dealing with disgruntled punters who dont understand the coursing betting rules

Good point always seems to be the case.... the betting rules are on the programme but you can bet your last buck that bookies wouldn't stand there without the rule!! I laid Pa Fitz's dog for his quarter last year and when he was withdrawn on wednesday morning I ended up having to give back the punter/bookmaker his stake although some bookmakers down there weren't even sure of the rule with regards quarter betting.. it is a joke and not a very funny one!!
