I am Irish. I support the Irish football team. I am concerned that our star striker is moving to a league where he will no doubt become a worse player as a result of playing with and against a bunch of pub players. I have no allegiance to any league or team in any league.

Facing up to the facts and calling it as it is - iis hardly insecurity. Dont have an issue at all, as a sporting nation we are fantastic - its just that soccer from a national perpsective is not our strong point - although I'd consider us a stronger force internationally than Scotland since we beat them in 1987.

For Cetic and Rangers, read Ajax and Feyenoord, Benfica and Porto, Galatasary and Trabzonpsor, Anderlecht and FC Bruges - dont have the same tv money to compete with the top 5-6 teams on the bigger stage. For Hibernian, Hearts, Aberdeen etc read Standard Liege, Twente, etc. Never going to compete at the latter stages of major euro competitions.

The days of Aberdeen, Dundee Utd (and even Dunfermline ffs) reaching Euro finals and semi-finals are over; but its a European phenonema not anything bad the Scots have done. Just life.

Petsy's grandson is the best young forward in Galway. Was on the senior panel last year and will make a big impact this year.

At least we have Martin Clarke back I suppose, club football has been poor for a decade though.

Not looking the wisest move for Mr Keane at the moment, he still has 10 minutes to score though..

Awh, shucks thanks!

I also have to admit a bit embarassment with it as well. The middle-aged (like myself) pot-bellied fan holding court in the pub with his premiership jersey on mouthing on "WE need to buy a striker in the the transfer window"; "We" this and "We" that. Cringe.

his prob better off to go now while his still able to run.

Would he of prefered to go to a club like Hull/Wolves? he was going to Celtic at some stage.

He just might be able to realise his dream of playing Champions League football.

With all the chances hel get now in games it could make him a better finisher

Wat a shockin league that is - terrible game

just like the majority of EPL games, if there was no sky and they were played in Fairview Park, Smyths pub and The Players Lounge would still be full.

They werent exactly queueing up to get him on loan.......choice of wolves or celtic or bench.....would have been nice to see him at wolves playing up front with doyle but playing for celtic has got to be better than not playing for spurs
