Off to Celtic apparently. What a disaster of a move. He should retire before he goes up there.

Loan until the end of the season will suit him perfectly, if he scores a few goals and he'll get a move back to a mid table prem club.
Report LOST MY HOUSE TO GAMBLING February 1, 2010 5:32 PM GMT
why is he going to celtic when he can walk into half of the premiership teams, he will lose his edge playing in a crap league
Report thegalwayman February 1, 2010 5:34 PM GMT
It is worse than Beckham going to America. Bad news for Ireland.
Report LOST MY HOUSE TO GAMBLING February 1, 2010 5:37 PM GMT
our top goalscorer playing in a crap league & crap team, he will lose his motivation & drive
Report Money On7 February 1, 2010 5:41 PM GMT
Nonsense, didnt hinder henrik larssons internationl career, actually made him better.
Report thegalwayman February 1, 2010 5:44 PM GMT
Larrsson was a freak who wasted most of his career in that nonsense league. Make no mistake this is a huge step down for Keane.
Report Money On7 February 1, 2010 5:47 PM GMT
larsson didnt exactly set the dutch league alight before his move to celtic.
Report jimmy4england February 1, 2010 5:54 PM GMT
any of you lot actually seen Robbie this season? gone! He's lost all his pace. He would stuggle to get in any team in the premiership
Report thegalwayman February 1, 2010 5:55 PM GMT
I saw him scoring against France in Paris.
Report Wicklow February 1, 2010 5:56 PM GMT
theres a big difference between the celtic team of say 5 years ago during larrssons stint than the shambles of a one now. The lack of money/wages up in scotland have really left the old firm with the dregs/cast offs from rest of europe.

the days of celtic in a uefa cup final wasnt too long ago but if things keep going like they are it will be achievement getting through a few rounds.
Report LOST MY HOUSE TO GAMBLING February 1, 2010 5:57 PM GMT
he would get into any premiership team outside the top 5 or 6 teams
Report LOST MY HOUSE TO GAMBLING February 1, 2010 5:59 PM GMT
he got 4 goals in 1 premiership game this season, how many strikers have done that this season?
Report claimingseven February 1, 2010 6:00 PM GMT
Lets be honest here he hasnt got a kick all season with Spurs.
He is a player who thrives on confidence, he will go up there and bang the goals in left right and centre making him believe he is world class again.

I cant see how its bad news for Ireland as we havent exactly got a World Cup to prepare for.
Actually him getting a permanent move up there would be more beneficial when it comes to our qualifying campaign for Euro 2012 as he will be playing well and regularly.
Report Giant Strides February 1, 2010 6:10 PM GMT

Report Diamond_Joe_Quimby February 1, 2010 7:10 PM GMT
Larsson wasted his best years in that league. Look at his time at Barcelona. Would have been a world legend had he moved on sooner and not wasted his time beating up Falkirk 9 times a year.
Report Win only - Sp only February 1, 2010 7:11 PM GMT

Report galway59 February 1, 2010 7:35 PM GMT
Larrson was very good at United in fairness. When he played which wasnt often they may as well have HENRY V111 up front.
Report Money On7 February 1, 2010 8:17 PM GMT
Very funny how people say larsson should have left celtic, why would he he was truly worshipped by the fans and was playing in front of at least 60,000 fans every week. dont sh1t on the team that helped make u. also he was guarnteed european football each year.

Report downallstar February 1, 2010 8:21 PM GMT
He may as well be playing football week in for the rest of the season, its not as if we're going to the WC. If he bangs in 15+ goals he'll get plenty of offers to go back to the PL.
Report The Gotchee February 1, 2010 8:35 PM GMT
I suspect Harry is under pressure to play Crouch and Defoe in this World Cup year. Lets face it, after Rooney they are Englands most prolific goalscorers and they wont be sitting on the bench. It is no surprise that he has offloaded Keane. He will be back playing in the Premier League in August.

Worshipped by Celtic fans. Prefer champions league winners medal instead and playing with decent players which thankfully for a player of his talent he got to do at the end of his career. And Larsson made that Celtic team not the other way round. Having to play with Guppy, Petta et al every week lol.

Report The Gotchee February 1, 2010 8:57 PM GMT
He is English and I have no doubt he is doing his bit to enable his beloved country win the World Cup, thats the way I see it. I am sure he has been advised, possibly by the FA or indeed Capello that it would be more beneficial for his best English strikers to be playing regular football in ths World Cup year.

I have a scottish cousin who was over here a couple of years back - who was astonished at the attacks he was getting about Scottish Football - he admitted it wasn't great but all the mid-European leagues like Scotland, Belgium, Turkey etc (these are usually ranked 7-9th in Europe and are continually battling for UEFA/Champions League spots) - are being dwarfed by the big 5 - England, Spain, Italy, and Germany and France to some extent.

His point was he could take the flak from the English but listening to the Irish (whose league is about 37th or so out of 40) was hard to take. As he said himself, they behave like the English Premiership is their home league!!!!

Anyway to his credit he stood firm and made mince meat of the resident and newly created Sunderland fan in attendance.

We can** off Scottish football all we like - but me? I'll just make sure I don't have a Scot in earshot, otherwise I'll look like a d*ck.
Report thegalwayman February 1, 2010 9:20 PM GMT
I simply think that Robbie Keane belongs in the premier league. Celtic are a mid table championship side. I assume Desmond is shelling out for his wages because you can be damn sure none of those other peasant players they have are on his kind of dough. Is that wino from derry still getting a game?

Facing up to the facts and calling it as it is - iis hardly insecurity. Dont have an issue at all, as a sporting nation we are fantastic - its just that soccer from a national perpsective is not our strong point - although I'd consider us a stronger force internationally than Scotland since we beat them in 1987.

For Cetic and Rangers, read Ajax and Feyenoord, Benfica and Porto, Galatasary and Trabzonpsor, Anderlecht and FC Bruges - dont have the same tv money to compete with the top 5-6 teams on the bigger stage. For Hibernian, Hearts, Aberdeen etc read Standard Liege, Twente, etc. Never going to compete at the latter stages of major euro competitions.

The days of Aberdeen, Dundee Utd (and even Dunfermline ffs) reaching Euro finals and semi-finals are over; but its a European phenonema not anything bad the Scots have done. Just life.

I also have to admit a bit embarassment with it as well. The middle-aged (like myself) pot-bellied fan holding court in the pub with his premiership jersey on mouthing on "WE need to buy a striker in the the transfer window"; "We" this and "We" that. Cringe.
