always intrigues me this one - guys putting up a defence for the love of their football club - you can generally tell the age of a fan by the club he supports - I have a few buddies supporting Leeds and Ipswich, bless them. These are lads who made a life long decision at a time when they still believed in Santa Claus. Lads telling you they support Liverpool and Manu because of their Irish links...wtf? God help the 7 year olds today who will commit themselves to the support of a despicable club like Chelsea. Lived in London in the 80s and used to go to the North Bank and the Shed and eventually learned to keep my mouth shut.
Fair dues to Celtic supporters, a great club with a proud tradition and and a real Irish heritage. Superb affinity between the Celts and the Irish. The only ground across the water where I have genuinely felt at home. Superb supporters who travel the length of Europe each year without a hint of trouble. |

Malay- You are referring to football that took place 40 years and more ago,Oxford were in the top tier as were Luton in the last 20 years,now they are both conference teams,Celtic may have been ok in the 60's but they are dirt now and have been with years.Even the nationalistic ideal has been diluted with the peace process.Eventually people got sick and tired of the bombings and the killings and looked for a change,the same as most neutrals have tired of hearing about the Old Firm derbies and the two rubbish Glasgow clubs dominating the pub league that is the Scottish premier.Nobody except the hardcore supporters care about the Scottish premier,who wants to be looking at the likes of Falkirk,Kilmarnock,St Johnstone and St Mirren every Saturday.There has to be something wrong with the mentality of supporters who pack in to Celtic Park when one of these aforementioned teams arrive in Glasgow. Think this demonstrates jimbob, that you have no concept of what it is to follow a club. Like watching football on the telly do you? |
