Could see Lenihan leading Fianna Fail to an overall majority as people realise how much they owe to that great party which always puts the country first .

Needed doing ... the country is saved, It did say on the tv screen that we are over the worst so it must be true, lenihan said it so definitely is. Where is the money gonna come from to pump into Anglo in 2010 you muppet
Report Upthewaterhill December 10, 2009 2:56 PM GMT
the young might get off their a*ss now and look for work, even if it is oversea's. 200 quid for doin nothing, where would you get it.
Report awesome impact December 10, 2009 2:58 PM GMT
Surely if it didn't cost so bloody much to live in the country, they would not have to give such a high dole payment out.
Report Upthewaterhill December 10, 2009 3:04 PM GMT
There you go, bring down social welfare payments, wages etc and i presume the cost of living will come down with it.

In fairness if people are going to pay over 5 bills for a pint, or 400 bag for a 3 bed then either they are show boatinging or some1 from the goverment /banks put a gun to their head and made them do it.
Report pots December 10, 2009 5:31 PM GMT
fair play to him, he stood his ground. left he tax paying middle class alone which is crucial for a return to growth

Wer far from out of the woods - Americas imminent disaster has being postponed. Inflation will nudge its head up in the second half of 2010. The ECB have forecasted this and interest rates will begin to creep back up again. Things will still be very fragile but if they do this will pile more pressure on those who are are brink of defaulting. We will have a fresh round of defaults thus the banks will have to be recapitalized once again another high yielding bond will have to be issued which will add further pain to the tax payer.

Wer not the only ones Greece and Spain are in the same boat, so we have a bit of clout, if the three stick together we can force Europes hand. The last thing the Eurozone and its currency needs is a soverign default.

Leno doing a decent job so far.

We're being fked up the a$s to pay the debts of unpatriotic sc um who don't for the most part even live here and who only employ house servants. At least the likes of Lord Leitrim used to live in the kip so that those he fked over could take his head off ;)
Report Biodiesel December 10, 2009 7:00 PM GMT
lol Lord Leitrim

the 200k non domicile tax is a big one for some. Individuals like JP it wont bother but to plenty it will.

His father would turn in his grave to see the thatcherite policies the little ** is pushing through......what a serious pay-cut for ministers,my arse!As Bruton said last night theyre taking the same paycut as the cleaner who cleans their offices!

I don't think he went far enough yesterday. Same old rubbish in this country about how the "Poor" and the "Old" are untouchable.

Should have put 5 euro charge per product on the medical card and gotten rid of free travel for the elderly. He should also have cut welfare by more for everyone, not just the under age ~ 25%+
and finally cut child allowance by 50% and means test it.
Report Diamond_Joe_Quimby December 10, 2009 7:21 PM GMT

What Thatcherite policies are they BB? the ones where the individual citizen is not subsidised by the state and is expected to work and contribute to society instead of milking it? One thing this recession and budget have shown is that socialism is dead in this country. Not one single proper real socialist element in this country.

Just centre/right wing.......and bunch of nutters SF/Labour/People before profit(LOL) etc... on the other side.

Joe Quimbey your a mug. This country is as capalist as it can, if you think people on the dole are 'milking' the system leave your job and see can you live on it. Im sick of this trying to blame people on the dole and oap on everything, they dont get very much money considering the cost of living. If you wana be like America id suggest you move their, but Ireland isnt dog eat.
Report idiot December 11, 2009 1:14 PM GMT
Quimbeys spot on.

The most capitalist**s in this country are those sitting on their arse and defrauding the state. Primetime the other night showed what kind of a bill just a tiny fraction of these 'working' class people can run up in a couple of years. The cost to the state just from that handful of rats was getting beyond a million quid I think. They also went to a town near the border where the numbers claiming welfare actually exceeds the numbers resident in the town...

While it is tough on anyone whos recently been made redundant, I know plenty who thought certain jobs were above them over the last few years and sat on their asses getting a state funded handout. I have no sympathy for them at all.

Hats off to Mr Lenihan.
Report silverbuck December 11, 2009 1:33 PM GMT
Has Mr Lenihan not served in a Government that for the last 10 years has facilitated and allowed all manner of social welfare fraud, in addition to their gross mismanagement of just about everything else they turned their hands to? Hats off Mr Lenihan my f**king hole
