I heard it was free in on Wed. What are the chances of this going ahead?

Not working as of last Fri, so might go down. I checked the FH website for transport details from Dublin. It says contact Bus Eireann. Check that website and no mention of anything.

Apparently only info is via a telephone no.

You would think in this day and age there would at least be a link from the FH website to get bus details, not to mention actually book a ticket.

BTW, Bus Eireann are running day trips from Busarus for €15 rtn. Leave 2 hrs before first race, so 10.20 am

Report BJG November 30, 2009 12:58 PM GMT
Officials at Fairyhouse are pessimistic about the chances of the rescheduled Royal Bond meeting taking place on Wednesday.

Three Grade One races were washed away on Sunday after the County Meath track was hit by a deluge of rain in the early hours, and the weather forecast looks unfavourable ahead of the mid-week fixture.

Racecourse manager Caroline Gray said: "Unless we see significant progress today then we could be in trouble.

"The rain came down in buckets yesterday and we had 34mm of rain overnight on Saturday.

"We then had a heavy frost last night and I imagine we will have a look this afternoon. Depending on how things are we may call an inspection for before declaration time in the morning.

"It is due to be dry and bright this afternoon but we are due to get up to 10mm of rain tomorrow and then showers are forecast on Wednesday.

"The track is still pretty waterlogged and the water table is so high."

Horse Racing Ireland has moved the entire seven-race card to Wednesday with Champion Bumper winner Dunguib engaged to extend his winning run over timber to three in the Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle.

Fairyhouse remains optimistic for Wednesday

BY JUSTIN O'HANLON3.19PM 30 NOV 2009

FAIRYHOUSE racecourse manager Caroline Gray reported on Monday afternoon that she was on the "optimistic side of hopeful" that Wednesday's rescheduled meeting, featuring three Grade 1s, will go ahead.
Report galway59 November 30, 2009 3:11 PM GMT
Caroline Gray is really well qualified to give an appraisal of the situation in Fairyhouse.Steeped in the tradition of horseracing, nobody could possibly knew more about the game than Caroline. Her time spent in the office at HRI prior to landing the Fairyhouse post certainly wasnt wasted.

FAIRYHOUSE READY TO RACE

By Martin Kelly, Press Association Sport

A dramatic change in fortunes has seen the ground dry out at Fairyhouse and officials are expecting tomorrow's star-studded card to pass without incident.

A total of 34 millimetres of rain fell in the space of a few hours on Sunday morning to wash away that afternoon's card, after which the Bar One Racing Novice Hurdle and two other Grade One races were rescheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

The mid-week fixture was also in danger of being lost with the track still waterlogged on Monday morning, but conditions have improved and racecourse manager Caroline Gray is confident of the seven-race card going ahead.

Gray said: "We are good to go again. The drains are working well and the ditches are full but the water is getting away.

"We were raceable yesterday afternoon and although we are forecast five to six millimetres this afternoon and showers tomorrow, we are set to go.

"There is no significant rain forecast in the immediate future, which is why we decided to race earlier in the week than later," Gray told At The Races.

Fairyhouse are offering free admission to racegoers for the rescheduled fixture.

Anyone have any quotes from Meade ? Cant seem to find much, just wondered if he still leaning towards Pandorama.
Report downallstar December 1, 2009 3:06 PM GMT
[i]Meade lets Jered and Pandorama line up in the rescheduled Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase on the same card.

From the original field of 10 declared for the two-and-a-half mile contest, just China Rock and River Liane are missing.

"A couple have come out of the Drinmore, which always helps, and both Pandorama and Jered remain in good form," the trainer continued./i]

Report downallstar December 1, 2009 3:19 PM GMT
you can still get on with powers via oddschecker, think they're just setting up their webpages with tomorrows cards.

Agree about Alpha though, no way he should be shorter than Pandorama.

i see that now down 5's still available... had him backed at 7's last time... posteo could be anything? can't have jered, think his stamina will be tested out, alpha needs further, roberto goldback could be the danger but doesn't fill all the stats and probably lacks the class of Pandorama

Selections

Race 1) Pom Flyer. A most consistent sort, goes best at this trip, and ran into course specialist Blueberry Boy at Punchestown a fortnight ago.

Race 2) Dunguib. A stroll in the park for this unbeaten sort. Has beaten dross on both hurdle starts this season. This will tell if he has any right to consider the Champion Hurdle. IMO it's not on.

Race 3) Alpha Ridge. Ruby Walsh takes over from the unlucky Alain Cawley here. This has to be a plus. He should step up on his seasonal debut where he got chinned by race fit China rock. Previously a top class hurdler who ran up a hat-trick last season. Pandorama can take the runner up spot. Davy Condon gets his chance here to cement his attachment to the Meade stable during Paul's 2 month absence.

Race 4) Shakervilz. Plat's choice. Trading Post tipped it last Sunday too. Lay Catch Me as has been mentioned on the Hattons Grace thread. A) coming back to hurdles. B) Stable woefully out of form C) A nasty fall last time out may have hindered his training regime.

Race 5) Here Comes Sally. The barman in my local was intending to back this one last Sunday. I said why? he said his missus's name!! Checking the form she certainly has a live chance. She has track form and she revels at the distance. Last time at Clonmel it took an inspired ride by Ruby Walsh on Moskova to beat her. She eventually got chinned for 3rd.

Race 6) Ten Fires. I am taking a chance on this as it was tipped by many in the Irish Field Naps competion for sunday.

Race 7) Arvika Ligeonniere. Another horse from the Mullins factory. This one has good hurdle form in France. That should be good enough for this bumper.

My Selections.

12.15 - Dantes Hall, had a nice re-introduction behind Dunguib, won at the course before (21f chase), trip & going ok. Trainer has an 80% strike rate here with his chasers, and the trainer /jockey have a 60% strike rate with chasers. Shazand the danger.

12.45 - Dunguib.

1.20 - Pandorama. Won a bumper here, 4/5 over the trip. Ground not an issue, in fact he put up some impressive times in the mud last year. If this was a hurdle race he'd be odds-on! Pesoto could be anything, but is too short. Whatuthink for the forecast.

1.50 - Tough race to call, not happy losing my 3/1 bet on Catch Me, am happy to oppose him for the same reasons Soapp gave. Question marks over them all tbh! Can't trust Aitmatov. ODD - ground? 90thminute - good enough/stable form? Hardy has a great fto record and might have a saver on him, but looks like I could be siding with Shakervilz too, albeit by default!

2.20 - Give It Time.

2.55 - Danderry ew.

3.25 - Arvika Ligeonniere

GL all.
Report BJG December 1, 2009 7:04 PM GMT
12.15 One of those anythin can win races - Battle Axe e/w a token selection, ground wont be a problem -will pop up someday at a big price imo, hopefully tomorrow

12.45 Race that revolves around Dunguib who has easily beaten his 2 main rivals in bumpers- Some Present to place me be better value though from a betting perspective

1.20 Mr Warbucks been undervalued here? Beat Whatuthink last time (was admittedly 3lbs better off) but worth an e/w bet for me here - jumped well last time, has won on his only try on heavy ground too

1.50 Catch me reverts back to hurdles after an unlucky fall wen on the way to victory over fences last time - this is nt the best of Grade 1 races and if none the worse for that fall should be very tough to beat in this on his hurdle form of last season

2.20 Give it Time an unlucky faller at the last wen looking set to take victory on her first chase start - faded out of it disappointingly last time at Thurles but worth another chance here back against her own sex

2.55 Bigbiggerbiggest won cosily at Limerick last time on heavy ground and can follow up on his handicap debut

3.25 Arvika Ligeonniere looks a standout here, ground to suit- form in France- hard to see it being beaten
Report Allduckornodinner December 1, 2009 7:23 PM GMT
Has anybody noticed that outside of Roberto Goldback and Jered the rest of the Drinmore field are generally frontrunners. Now its unlikely that in a Grade 1 chase run on heavy ground with the top riders involved that they will go a silly gallop but I was just thinking that they could set it up for those more suited to being held up. I can see Ruby dropping in Alpha Ridge givin thats its Ruby but the rest of them wont be too keen to do the same. Anyways I know Jered is a dog at times but he does have the class and jumps proficiently enough to get into my reckoning given how I feel it will pan out. I have him down as a good place bet anyway so dont mind if one or even two beat him home. Chances are he will go out and sulk in the rain but in a tricky race he is my angle into it. I would have probably picked Roberto Goldback instead if Geragthy rode him but dont fancy puppy at all.

As for the rest of the card Fantoche is the token selection in the first though its probably a no bet race (yes I know who rides!!).

I dont think the Royal Bond will be quite the cakewalk some are anticipating for Dunguib but he should come home in front. I fancy Some Present to follow him home (probably under the 5 1/2 lengths that Cashmans are pricing up the distance betting at with 6/4 either side of the margin)

Doesnt seem to be much value about in Hattons Grace with Aimatov hopefully being the poigant victor.

Fancy Give It Time to win the mares race over her best trip. Anything above 2's is value in my eyes.

I was pretty bullish about Lochan Lacha on sunday and nothing has happened to change my mind, looks well in on both his hurdles and chase form.

Nap of the day goes to the Mullins challenger here. His French form sets a decent standard and should bring home bacon. Cheers Jon caught the eye in p2p's and Bolger doesn't run them in bumpers for the sake of it so he is the one to keep an eye out for too. Unfortunately it doesnt look like we will be getting much of a price on Arvika here as some trigger happy individuals are happily taking 4/6 on here already. Hope these lads are able to hold fire a bit easier in bed or else I pity their wives :)

Mine for today:

12.15 Shazand (each way) won on his seasonal debut last season when landing a 2m4f Punchestown beginners chase on heavy ground. He ran well for a long way but was being challenged for the lead by Northern Alliance when falling at the second last fences in a 2m grade 2 novice chase at Punchestown on his next start. Northern Alliance subsequently finished 4th in both the Jewson at Cheltenham and 4th in the Galway hurdle before winning the Kerry National off 140. Eddie OGrady said that Shazand took some time to recover form that fall and it looked as if he had when he won a 2m4f Punchestown handicap chase off 127 on his seasonal debut last month. He beat Arkendale by a short head with the first 2 pulling 7 lengths clear of the rest. Arkendale won next time out by 3 lengths off a 4lb higher mark so Shazand should be capable of going close off just 7lbs higher, especially considering that he has only run 6 times over fences and more improvement should be forthcoming. This is the time of year he runs best as he has gained 4 wins and 2 places from 8 runs in the months of October to December. 11/2 Sporting-bet

12.45 looks either a 3-horse race or a 1-horse race depending on how you look at it. No horses has gotten near to Dunguib in bumpers or over hurdles but while he has not been extended in winning his two hurdles races to date the opposition have not been up to much. Sweeps Hill and Some Present have been mixing it in better company over hurdles but both were well beaten by Dunguib in the Punchestown champion bumper. Barring a fall its tough to see Dunguib losing in this but at 1/3 Im happy to watch without having a bet.

1.20 the Drinmore looks very open this year and in an open contest Ive decided to go for Pandorama even though he did look very much like he would be better racing left handed last time out. He won a Fairyhouse bumper on rules debut in March 08. He was incredibly impressive in winning his first 3 hurdles races last season, all on soft or heavy. He was beaten by Mikael DHaguenet in a 2m4f grade 1 novice hurdle at Navan on his third start over obstacles and in retrospect there was no shame in getting beaten by that rival. He was a slightly fortunate winner of the Deloitte in February when Cousin Vinny fell but he cant be blamed for that.
He tended to jump left at most of the fences on his chasing debut when he won 2m4f Punchestown beginners chase on yielding to soft. I thought he beat Clan Tara more comfortably than the final margin and they pulled well clear of the rest. Apparently Pandorama hasnt been showing the same tendency to jump left while schooling and we must remember that he won a 3m point to point on soft ground at right handed Dungarvan. If Davy Condon can get Pandorama settle towards the inner with horses on his left maybe that will keep the horse straighter over his fences. 4/1 sporting-bet

13.50 Catch Me has always been best at 2½ miles on very soft ground. His record in 2½ mile races over hurdles on ground that had soft or heavy in the description is U1111 and the unseated was when going well in the Deloitte in 2007 and was badly hampered by Leading Run jumping across him.
He has run at Fairyhouse twice before, both runs were at this meeting for the last 2 years. In 2007 he won a 2m2f hurdle on yielding to soft and then last year he won this race on soft ground, beating Brave Inca by over a length (and beating 3 prospective rivals Muirhead, Hardy Eustace, Aitmatov by 8 or more lengths) which was probably his best performance to date.
Conditions will be ideal for Catch Me but 11/8 looks about the right price so I think the best bet in this is to go for Oscar Dan Dan (w/o favourite) @ 4/1 PP. Oscar Dan Dan looked the likely winner of the Lismullen last time out before crashing out 2 from home. He ran his best race to date on his previous outing and is clearly in very good order. There shouldnt be such a big price discrepancy between him and Aitmatov and he looks the best value to follow Catch Me home.

2.20 Shuil Aris (each way) is one that catches the eye for Paul Nolan with Ruby booked to ride. She has shown good form over hurdles, twice runner-up to Grangeclare Lark in grade 3 event and she was an unlucky second to Major Finnegan in a listed novice hurdle on her penultimate start in October 2007. She had her first run for over 2 years when an unplaced favourite in a 2m4f Clonmel maiden hurdle. She drifted from 6/4 out to 11/4, suggesting she would need the run, which turned out to be the case. She finished 7th and the form of the race has worked out very well. This is her first run over fences but she has looked likely to be a better horse over the bigger obstacles and her half sister Hard To Get Ten gained her only win in a 3m beginners chase and was far better over fences than hurdles. Rubys only ride for Nolan this season was on Moskova, who won a mares chase at 5/1. Shuil Aris available at 7/1 with PP/VC

2.55 Danderry (each way) won a maiden hurdle at Down Royal over 2m6f last time out on soft ground by 8 lengths.
Form of the race has worked out well. The 3rd was 4th of 20 in a Navan maiden hurdle next time out. The 4th (who was beaten 15L and was getting 13lbs) was placed off a mark of 91 in a handicap hurdle on only start since. The 7th (who was beaten 21L getting 11lbs) has won on both starts since in handicap hurdles off marks of 87 and 95. As a result of how his maiden hurdle win has worked out you have to say that a mark of 109 does not look too bad. He has finished runner-up over 3 miles before in a Naas maiden hurdle on soft and I think the 3 mile trip on testing ground will suit him today. Paul Flynn and Mick Darcy have won with 4 of their 16 runners together this season, showing a profit of 69.50. 7/1 VC/Lads

3.25 Al Ferof (each way) has the credentials to go very close in this bumper. Of those who have run he has shown the best form. He won a 3m pt to pt on soft to heavy on his second start in that sphere after falling early first time out. He was 3rd in a 2m Punchestown bumper on his first start under rules and the form of that run could hardly have worked out better. The winner won a maiden hurdle by 7 lengths next time out, the runner-up and the 4th both won bumpers in stylish manner on their next starts.
Any Willie Mullins runner demands respect in a bumper and Arvika Ligeonniere was runner-up in a hot Auteuil hurdle on his only start to date. He is potentially very good but will be priced accordingly and it is likely that his targets will be hurdles later in the season so may not be fully wound up for this. 9/2 VC
