Fair play to trappa for getting us this far. But i was listening to jason mcateer on friday and he said that trappa was 1 of the worllds great technicians! Personally i dont c it. On sat the game was crying out for mcgeady or hunt to come on but 2 late as we wer 1-0 down. And the central midfield pairings have been shocking!

I was crying out at Hunts lack of impact.
Report The Bhoys November 16, 2009 2:19 PM GMT
he never got enough time!
Report CailiniDeas8 November 16, 2009 2:26 PM GMT
He had enough time to pass the ball directly to the opposition 3 times.
Report The Bhoys November 16, 2009 2:27 PM GMT
wel thats tru.
Report Slow eddie November 16, 2009 2:28 PM GMT
Duff and Lawrence are better players in my opinion and did quite well saturday night in the circumstances. Hunt would be a better option than Kilbane at left back.
Report The Bhoys November 16, 2009 2:29 PM GMT
Duff was terrible the other nite. Never attacked sagna once. Legs are gone. Lawerence defended excellent but we need to score
Report Slow eddie November 16, 2009 2:31 PM GMT
He's not the player he was but still better than McGeady and Hunt. I'm a fan of Hunt's but he didn't make the most of his 10 mins saturday.
Report The Bhoys November 16, 2009 2:32 PM GMT
No way mate. Mcgeady can create and excite the crowd! Telling u hes the answer!
Report Slow eddie November 16, 2009 2:34 PM GMT
Excite the crowd? Make them pull their hair out more like. Has plenty of ability alright but plays with his head down most of the time. Doesn't produce enough relative to the amount of ball he gets on and is weak defensively.
Report The Bhoys November 16, 2009 2:36 PM GMT
Hes not that bad defensivly. Improved a great deal while under strachan! Playmaker this year tho!

Report db1974 November 16, 2009 3:04 PM GMT
McGeady might be good week-in and week-out up in Scotland

International football is a bit of a step up from that
Report MAESTRO OF SWORDS November 16, 2009 3:06 PM GMT
Whens laurence good week in week out
Report db1974 November 16, 2009 3:08 PM GMT
I never said Lawrence was good
Report MAESTRO OF SWORDS November 16, 2009 3:09 PM GMT
So what are you saying that about mcgeady for?
Report db1974 November 16, 2009 3:10 PM GMT
Because he does not "create and excite the crowd" nor is he "the answer"
Report CailiniDeas8 November 16, 2009 3:11 PM GMT
We are awful.
Report MAESTRO OF SWORDS November 16, 2009 3:15 PM GMT
He does excite the crowd in fairness your codding yourself or you dont watch him playin if you think that hes should be in the team laurence is in that team because of his dead ball skills and andy reid is far better off a dead ball than him them lads sat are not the best irish 11 trap has available to him and its a joke that nothing is done about it cailin i agree but hopefully we get something wednesday
Report Murphinator1 November 16, 2009 3:19 PM GMT
Duff skinned Sagna with that Cruff turn so I am realy unsure what that earlier comment was about! In close games of football it can take one piece of magic like that to turn a game. I think Lawrence played well, but McGeady needs to play. He can be frustrating 90% of the time but he possesses the quality we need to hurt their defence. You need to take a chance of overhaul the deficit thats why he needs to play.
Report CailiniDeas8 November 16, 2009 3:19 PM GMT
Of course. I'll be cheering them on, the style and quality of football leaves me empty though I'm afraid to say.

Whatever about Andy Reid I have no idea wtf he was up to with Steven Reid.
Report MAESTRO OF SWORDS November 16, 2009 3:21 PM GMT
we should have qualified from that group simple how we have no left full is beyond me as well
Report Murphinator1 November 16, 2009 3:32 PM GMT
I'm not sure we can say we 'should have qualified from the group'. I think we looked as solid away from home as I have ever seen us. Yet, we were terrible at home alot of the time. Poor vs Bulgaria, Montenegro and Cyprus, we were 1-0 down vs Georgia until we got a very fortunate penalty decison with about 20 minutes left. We also played against 10 Italian men for 80 minutes in Bari and needed almost every minute of the the 90 to beat Cyprus away. We got second and that was what we deserved.

I would have been delighted with a 0-0 draw on Saturday because I honestly think we have been poor to woeful the entire time we have been at croker. The pitch is too big in my opinion and it doesn't have that intimidating Landsdowne factor. Yet 1-0 is not the end of the world and if someone can stick one in then we are more than back in it. France are not great and may feel the job has been done. If we take the lead they home crowd will get on top of them.
Report dermo79 November 16, 2009 4:07 PM GMT
we gave the ball away so easily in second half that it was embarrassing, cannot do that at this level..**Best is a tree, zero mobility or touch surely one of the worst strikers to ever play at international level!
Report superhero November 17, 2009 10:34 AM GMT
Mcgeady is nothing special, doing it in the spl and doing it on the big international days are very different. i wouldnt say he is the answer. Tends to put his head down too much and lets be honest, his crossing is awful. Duffs legs are gone, another who seems to find it hard to cross the ball. He never whips them in at pace, he just seems to clip them up in the air. Lawrence i think, is a good player, however he spent alot of his time defending the last night and will probably do the same the next night if selected.

What the team is crying out for is a person who can split a defence with a 30 or 40 yard through ball or something over the top. Andy Reid and Steven Ireland are the best two players for this but thats another arguement.
Chasing the game wont suit us but even if Ireland surprise everybody and score a goal does anyone really believe we can hold on to that lead? Being realistic, we need two goals.
Report Invisible Knave November 17, 2009 1:23 PM GMT
He treats decent Irish players like retards with his sterile, bankrupt approach to the game

38% possession at home in a World Cup playoff.

Wish he would f*ck off back to continental Europe.
Report Viva Las Vegas November 17, 2009 7:12 PM GMT
Invisible Knave = Steve Staunton imo
Report Diamond_Joe_Quimby November 17, 2009 7:48 PM GMT
The serious question is whether he has improved the teams performance compared to Kerr, Staunton etc...

Now Staunton was a joke so throw him away but with Kerr i see no great improvement.

One of lifes great mysteries is how Don Givens is till employed as a football coach at ANY level.
Report squigs November 17, 2009 8:18 PM GMT
If McGeady didn't play for Celtic he would not be in the Irish team I think. Quick and can get the crowd going but overall Lawrence and Hunt are much better footballers.
Report CailiniDeas8 November 17, 2009 8:21 PM GMT
Hunt is worse than Galvin on his worst day. An absolute joke of a player imo.
Report adriandc November 17, 2009 8:29 PM GMT
McGeady would be fantastic if he could finish, he could probably take on any French player but what use is that if he just ends up passing to one of them in the end.
Im delighted for Lawrence though, hes proving himself as a consistent player and with more international experience he could be very very important to us for the next campaign.
Report thegalwayman November 17, 2009 9:18 PM GMT
When Hunt came on against Italy he managed to do what McGeady had failed to do in his spell on the pitch- put the ball in the box. We scored from that delivery as I recall. McGeady is easily the most ineffective and frustrating player I can ever recall playing for Ireland, and yes I am including the likes of David Connolly there. The guy is useless.
