Why is this running in cheltenham when it'll destroy it's handicap mark if it comes in top 6?? Surely the ladbroke is there for the taking off 141?

meant the Pierse sorry (or better again Tote Gold Trophy). They must really think he's special if they're not even bothering to go down the handicap route...

The mix up at Fairhouse has forced their hand a bit id say
Report BrianTheDog December 12, 2008 12:54 PM GMT
agree with the last comment - mix up at Fairyhouse has caused a problem (should not have won that day)

Davy will ensure if it aint going to be in the frame it will be well out the back.
Report Snowball December 12, 2008 5:16 PM GMT
How did it force his hand, 141 isn't too bad a mark?? And whats the point in running him if he's goin to be hunted around the back?
Report Peter North December 12, 2008 5:57 PM GMT
Trainer no fool, must think he is good enough to get placed.

''Mix up'' is one way of putting it Allduck, lol. Thank you Tom Doyle is all i will say. As a lover of the Pierse hurdle i'm glad Doyle played his part in the ''Mix up''........ it should mean a wide open Pierse now. The horse was a cert for the Pierse but for the ''Mix up''.

Snowball i like the ''rabbit in the headlights'' role your playing, you clearly know a lot more about this whole situation than you would want us to think.
Report Eddie Batt December 12, 2008 9:20 PM GMT
Its a long way to go and a lot of money to pay to try and fool the handicapper.Presumably he is running on his merits.

rumour has it that guesser tom segal has stuck it up
Report Allduckornodinner December 12, 2008 10:06 PM GMT
Snowball the Pierce would have been a lot more enticing off his old mark. There is a lot off money to be got back after the last debacle
Report Snowball December 13, 2008 10:00 PM GMT
Yeah probably true, if he was mine it'd put him away until the tote gold trophy 141 should leave him with a bit still in hand I'd say. Centre field no hidden agenda here!
Report Border Reiver December 18, 2008 5:31 PM GMT
Oh, just the mention of the title Pierce hurdle gets my blood racing, without a doubt the best handicap of the year!
Report Center Field December 18, 2008 7:16 PM GMT
Tell me about it, the Pierse is my favourite NH race of the season along with the GPT. When it comes to the flat forget the Irish Derby, i'd take the Irish Cambridgeshire every day of the week.

Report Catch Me ifyoucan December 21, 2008 4:11 PM GMT
Catch Me let his backers down at odds of 2/11 twelve months ago in the Horse And Jockey Hotel Hurdle and in 2008 it was the turn of Solwhit to disappoint odds-on punters as he went down by three parts of a length to Ninetieth Minute.

Solwhit was in trouble from a fair way out and try as he might under Davy Russell, he couldn't reel in the all-the-way winner.

Tom Taaffe said of his Paddy Flood-ridden victor: "We knew that the favourite was a two mile horse on the flat, they generally need up to three miles over hurdles and while Solwhit might be an exception to that rule, we decided to set a steady pace (winning time of 4 minutes 24.5)

"The horse jumped well today, he is tough and he stays. I'm delighted for the owner, Dermot Cox, he is a great supporter of not only myself but of the game in general. I'll give the horse a break now until the spring and we'll send him over fences later next year."

What an outrageous piece of aftertiming by biodiesel.
Report BJG November 15, 2009 3:30 PM GMT
Delighted winning trainer Charles Byrnes said: "He was impressive there. If we weren't going to beat Hurricane Fly today we never were.

"My lad doesn't take a lot of work to get him right. I was delighted with the pace of the race and he loves coming between horses.

"He's entered in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle and that's in two weeks' time, which is a problem.

"If he doesn't go there we'll wait and run him over Christmas."

Russell added: "He doesn't set you alight at home but he's totally different at the races.

"It was a worry whether they would go quick enough but I was confident that if they did and he was fit enough that I was on best horse in the race.

"We didn't break any track records but we went along at a nice even pace. I was happy with way he jumped and he kept quickening all the way to the line.

"He's an improver. There's very little between all of these (Champion Hurdle) horses. My horse is at that level, no-one knows what will win the Champion Hurdle but my horse is a contender
