1. Each competitor has 2 points to use every day there is an Irish racing meeting. The bet is either 2pts win or 1 pt e/w. If not specified the bet will be assumed to be 2pts win, whatever the price.
2. We'll use SP (unless you quote time of price and where - no best morning price stuff)
3. No lays, place only, betfair prices, doubles, trebles etc
4. If there are two or more Irish meetings on that day there is still only one bet.
5. Each competitor has two 5 point bets to use during the competition. One bet can be used by the end of November and the other used by the end of the comp. If somebody selects a 5 point bet, this horse may not be used as a 5 point bet by anyone else that day.
6. Bets are on Irish horse racing only.
7.Competitors may nominate in advance a "competition holiday" which must be taken in chunks of not least than a week (seems fair enough- winning tippers will make pts than holidays makers might lose )
8. Not posting unless stated on holiday for the week or fortinght will be the equivalent of a -1
9 Returns will NOT include your stake
10. Entrants will be accepted up to a week from tomorrow.
11. Entrants should be prepared to keep own score
12. Starts on Saturday (JNWine Chase day) ends on January 10th (Pierse Hurdle day).
13. All welcome to enter.

*Moneypenny has kindly offered to do the settling*

will some of the wise old posters come out of retirement for this? Centre Field et al?

Think an SP only competition might make it interesting; would make life tougher anyway.
By:
ATC
When: 01 Nov 09 21:39
would lead to it being a lot tighter anyway, with more lads in with a shout...but there is a lot of skill involved in getting on at the right time!! its a tough one imo

SP only would be easier for the scorer. How about we use betfair sp's which are a truer reflection of a horses real odds especially with outsiders

Good point moneypenny. Definitely think it should be made as easy as possible for whoever is doing the scoring. The Betfair SP makes sense as the tipster gets full value for tipping a big-priced rag.

I'm in, provided plenty of interest and debate last year so hopefully more of the same. Think it should be SP only apart from the bonus races which are priced up in advance to reward the shrew antepost selections

No antepost in this comp allduckornodinner. If everyone is agreed i think BSP is the easiest and fairest way to go. Lads getting big odds in the morning off oddschecker has created suspicion and bad feeling a few times in the past and quite often they are ricks by the likes of b365 that are only laid for pennies or not at all.

Fair enough I suppose.

betfair sp could result in some massive priced winners....

maybe im wrong in this but it could mean a that a consistant tipper could get blind sided by one stab in the dark at mega odds?

would this be an issue?
By:

When: 01 Nov 09 22:39
Agree, maybe just use the industry sp?
By:
moneypenny
When: 01 Nov 09 23:54
Im easy either way whichever way we decide. I suppose the real downside of using betfair sp is it would skew each way bets as odds would not be representative although having said that i see betfair also return a place sp

basing the comp on sp would be taking half the fun out of it imo.spotting/taking the value early is half the battle.im sure those who put up prices which are not available can be easily identified and banished from the comp.
By:
downallstar
When: 02 Nov 09 10:39
I don't think that too many ppl do put up prices that aren't there, as you say Jason, its easy to verify on odds-checker.

I agree. Half the challenge is getting best EP.

Think the competition was only ever once won by someone who guessed on 1 big price winner near the end.

some people havent access to the net during the winter, they may be on the road or in a company that doesnt allow internet browsing, they are at a disadvantage

When: 04 Nov 09 14:24
most poeple didnt seen to have trouble previously and those that do can take sp if they have to,hardly that big a deal considering the comp is only a bit of fun
