....They didn't have the Betfair Forum........more important than the hierarchy think.....

I was on Purple many moons ago and to say they missed a trick is an understatement. They had so many opportunities to kick on with some sort of an offer and missed all of them.
All of the big hitters would have gone over with any sort of offer that beat the premium charges on here.....I couldn't believe how they just sat on their hands and missed out on fortunes in commission. |

The Losers on BF (at least 98% of customers) had no incentive to go to BD as they were never going to face PC.
BF got in first and it's as simple as that |

By:
Its the classic VHS v Betamax scenario.

What's the story? Was **** losing money or did the (old) owners just want to cash out?
By:
Why buy to shut down
easybet and matchbook......u can only join one |
By:
freddiewilliams -- I don't know why MB bought BD but the usual reasons for takeovers include:-
To gain BD customers. To gain BD technology or other assets. To remove a competitor from the market. From what little I've heard, the third seems most likely, but that's a guess. |
By:
On a previous purple thread, someone mentioned that purple were losing money and I guess they had to cash their chips in. MB offer nothing for the inrunning player, their website is similar to BF's, its fine if you want to bet/lay pre race, but you couldn't be using their interface to try and bet their own bots who must hoover up anything that's the wrong price at that time.

Yes and apparently it's been costing him a nice few quid to keep it going,They're also involved with RDT which provide the software and back up for over 50% of the on course bookmakers and also RBC which is the Bookmakers Admin site,Matchbook taking them over too. From previous thread. |

By:
richgit - Purple had their own forum, lasted quite a while before they realised they couldnt police it without additional costs.

By:
....logging off the forum, and reverting back to the World outside of bleak realities is a bit of a downer.
By:
Would BF have gone 2% without purple doing it first ?

The Losers on BF (at least 98% of customers) had no incentive to go to BD as they were never going to face PC. BF got in first and it's as simple as that Absolutely, it's basic human nature, not just here but in all aspects of life, people moan but do nothing about it, whenever there is a downtime like on Grand National day a few years back we all moaned but as soon as it was back, so were we. Getting an organised walk out that everyone complies with is practically impossible, it's why the Glazers will only f00k off when they're good and ready. |

Its OK Wicklow, ladder interface, one click betting etc, its actually free for Matchbook:

The Losers on BF (at least 98% of customers) are ewe won of the 2%? |
By:
cheers TT, I will have a look at it later for kempton when things calm down. Always good to have another option if anything goes belly up here.

By:
Seemed to be even more of an in-house cheat system than other exchanges (maybe just more noticeable due to lack of money on site)...
joins the other greats such as Play2Match (eurobet-coral) and sporting options...the less said about those the better... |
By:
oh and their customer service was awful...yes, worse than BF..
By:
Some good lads worked at **** at the start they were very good at looking after you ,for two years they had a box on the rowley mile which I was lucky enough to be invited to whenever I was going ,I never understood how they couldn’t compete with betfair as this lot has never done anyone a favour,
By:
BF were very good in the early days so I totally disagree with that..
it changed pretty rapidly when the ownership changed and plenty of people had days out on BF under it's original owners.. |
By:
Trevor was fine on BD but saw the light and moved on

Brentford
Were sporting options around before betfair? |

pretty sure sporting options were later but would defer to others, Play 2 match were circa 1999
By:
I haven't spoke to him for a couple of years, jimnast.
He was a "good egg" working for shysters |
By:
jimnast, Sporting Options were around roughly at the same time as betfair (november 2000) but didnt actually start up until 2002 and went bust a couple of years later.
By:
also didn't ringfence client funds, BF honoured their accounts up to a few thousand I think it was..
