32 runners so far 18 from O'Brien, Aiden a certainty by the looks of it.
|

By:
I hope he gets stufffed he should never have ran Kalpana for a start after that gruelling race in The Arc but no his ambition was more important than the King George Winner.

If I've understood it correctly, the championship runs to 31 Dec, so can't Balding just farm the AW to win ?
|
|
By:
Tbf there was one he could have run yesterday but didn't - Item - who's officially rated higher than Constitution River, so in theory had he run in the Champion Stakes, could have deprived O'Brien of the £39K for 5th place, but Balding opted to mind the colt for next season.

By:
Kalpana's Won that race for the last 2 years.Running her in the Arc
last season didn't stop her. |
|
By:
He didn't run Blue Bolt either, so evidently not a run them at any cost policy.

Cost me the placepot so yes i am bitter.

"It's all a bit of fun and we were delighted to be here."
Said Aidan O'Brien. If he starts sending over his 75-rated lesser lights to run at Wolverhampton, then we'll know he's taking it rather more seriously than he's letting on ![]() |

god sake, does anyone care about jockeys/ trainers championship other than ed and his itv racing
|
|
By:
I agree with elisjohn. I'd add the Prestbury Cup to the list of things that fascinate the racing media but not racing fans.
|
|
By:
elisjohn, the thread is primarily about the wording of Balding's quote about the Futurity.
He could have said: Aidan has an outstanding record in the Futurity Stakes and if he dominates the race again then he's pretty much got another title in the bag. But from the entire quote it would appear Balding still thinks he can win the trainers' title, so I asked does this mean Balding thinks he's got a 2YO for next Saturday that can seriously challenge the Ballydoyle battalion? Hth. |
|
By:
Right now, Andrew Balding has two entries in the Futurity. Aidan O'Brien has 16 including the antepost favourite. 5/4 Noble Exhibit; 8/1 bar.
The Balding pair are Royal Quest 20/1 and Gran Dia 33/1. It may be that Balding was whistling to keep his spirits up, or perhaps just saying the championship remains open unless Aidan lands the Futurity. |
|
By:
O'Brien is 4\7 for the championship.
If the Furutity is the deciding race (as it almost certainly must be) taking the 4/7 and then backing the two Balding horse dutched together for the race itself at 11/1 to at least cover looks like a sound bet? I cannot see Balidng flooding the AW to try to win it because he would need a miracle doing that if O'Brien does take the Futurity. Of course, neither might win the Futurity then the last two months of the year would be interesting! |

Acey
Trainers get criticised for not running them enough it did her no harm last year perhaps she is simply past her best ,anyway she has now seen the last of her racing days and hopefully has a long retirement |
|
By:
Almost certainly Kalpana's last race so it should not have done her any harm. Nobody seems to mention that Minnie Hawk also ran in the Arc. at the moment Andrew is £89k behind Aiden who is probably relying on one race for the rest of the years while Andrew could run an average of 4 a day for the next 10 weeks. 280 runners at a £1000 in prize money each on average would still put Kingsclere in front. If it did get close though I imagine Aiden will be running in nearly every maiden and novice race in GB to stay ahead.
|
|
By:
I think the 280 runners at an average of £1k a runner is a bit optimistic.
It is extremely unlikely that Balding would be running 4 a day on the AW for the last 6 weeks of the year just for the kudos of winning a trainer's championship. His operation is a bit more long-term than that. No, Saturday could very well decide it unless both fail to pick up prize money, which is more likely for Balding that O'Brien. Personally, I think 4\7 looks a bit generous for O'Brien. Indeed if he does run a handful in the race, the dutched odds for them winning it would be much shorter than 4\7. |
|
By:
But Balding could finish second even if O'Brien wins the Futurity. The difference would still be £96000 which is a big gap. However, there are 2 strong contenders from other yards in Al Hudaiba and Burning Up who are on a similar RPR to the favourite Noble Exhibit so it is not a foregone conclusion. Aiden ran a lot of nice horses in Ireland yesterday and won 6 races so what ever ailed his horses a month ago seems to be past. There are still 38 flat meetings until Nov 7 when the turf season ends so plenty of prize money to be won yet.

Doncaster Lincoln meeting to Doncaster November Handicap meeting number of winners and stop all this rubbish….
Same in Ireland start and finish….. Jockey title included…… Refresh the game. Get champions day back to Newmarket….. |

...It's a fair argument Irons, I reckon...........number of winners, versus amount of prize money.
....Prize money means only ever a select few can ever win.... lower league trainer/owners combination banging in a 50% strike rate, have no chance. Fair ?....I don't know....maybe training Blue bloodied horses to win Group races is tougher than tramping round Southwell and Wolves for the scraps. I'm not arguing either way... |

Past was best tbh…..original betting ring and a quiet relaxing day…..
Now it’s unbearable tbh…. Howling and screaming,individual from X roaring like a h@rny bull shouting lift him…..ffs he’s going to get caught……lift him ! Incredible scenes… |

Doubt the trainers title will be decided on the price of a sausage roll.

Quixall could open a bakery with the amount of sausage rolls he is down in October!! lol

A minor "Blip" from the bet editor,Glen.

If Quixall had been Emperor of Japan in 1945 , Hiroshima would have been a blip!!

AOB must be 1.01 to lift the thing tbh….
|
|
By:
If that is your opinion why haven't you taken the 4/7?
|
|
By:
Zzzzzzzzz
|
|
By:
Why would I buy money when i can dig out 5 and above silly boy….
|
|
By:
Quixall , would you refuse to buy £10 notes for £1? Same principle if you think a bet at 1.01 is being offered at 4/7 , if AOB wins the futurity it will be no offers and any price you like for Balding , they will probably pay out after the race.

Champions day is a huge success there’s no better site in racing than top class horse swinging into the straight at Ascot I’ve no problem with the rowley mile quite enjoy racing there but I’ve no doubt the champion stakes is ran n the right racecourse. |

Aceform suffers from a massive overdose of nostalgia as well as being unable to understand what "value" actually is,jimnast.
A 4/7 Backer is simply having a bet at a price that appears very generous to him. Not too difficult to see why he loses on here every year ![]() |
|
By:
I don’t need a lecture regarding price Cagliari tbh…..i just don’t believe in buying money at those prices tbh…..
I prefer the punters price….. Jimnast fair comment regarding Ascot which is second to York imv……i certainly enjoy champions day with a nice bottle of Chardonnay…. |
|
By:
Looked at my bank statement today and saw a debit to Britbet. Never heard of them I thought. It is so long since I went racing that I had never used a debit card with the Tote before York last Saturday so I thought I had been scammed
