Touched on this yesterday, other than this one, O'Brien has had 1 1/8 winner from his last 40 runners. Pretty shocking for a stable of that quality. Trying to catch his son up? It didn't stop this one being very well supported, and bolting up. I don't follow the Flat on anything like a day to day basis, but he would be the 2yo colt who has impressed me the most. I wouldn't be overly bothered about him dropping back in trip for a Guineas, in fact he could sit on the front end safe in the knowledge that he is a strong stayer at the trip. The biggest concern would be whether the trainer can still produce one for the Classic.
I think most people would have realised that I was discussing the Guineas. On that subject the trainer talking him up as potential Triple Crown contender so at least at the moment the Guineas looks to be on the agenda. We know the trainer is more than prone to going overboard on a frequent basis, but he appears to be top of the pecking order. Perhaps he is due to get one right. He isn't much shorter than the Godolphin thing that scrambled home at Newbury today. I would have him in a different league to that boat.

It's not glaringly obvious why, but it seems AOB no longer prioritises the guineas. Hypothesis perhaps that he wants them fresher for the backend. He could of course flip that for a certain horse/campaign, but none of us will be itk, outside of market clues.

I don't see any reason for the second to turn that around over an extra furlong. He didn't have a stable companion preventing the winner having an easy lead. Unless it's just words, you wouldn't expect O'Brien to be sending the horse to Newmarket half baked after that.

Thanks, but I can't remember my last ante-post bet on the Classics that has actually come good. At the moment you would just settle for them turning up fit and well. This horse is now favourite, and if the Pouliches (not sure where Unibet's market has gone?) were to take place now, then Amazingly would surely go off a short priced favourite. Fingers crossed.

That’ll explain in part why you’re such a miserable toff.
Not sure what you're being thanked for? No recommended AP bet for 2000 @ 16/1 before today.

Did you have him beating the boat by further than he did today?

Said on the day that he’d won over 1m 1f and been promoted Derby fav and HYPED.
Thanks for the foresight and general rambling, didn’t think that he’d be held up nor was there a mention of today!

but for the classictrials and early season classics , aidens had a mare for his standards, without scandanavia its been pretty poor since royal ascot in all honesty

don't want to get into too much of a dispute but I was there today. If the race had gone on for another 1/2f he'd have won 4l. I am a sceptic on Coolmore generally. But this horse is bred to be at least a 10f horse. DI 0.94. Coolomore are gagging for a Triple Crown winner. I think 2 things. First it will be trained for the 2000g. And it is by far the most likely winner of the Derby at present save for another one from their yard. And I think there is juice in 7/2 for Epsom

God there are some thick arses on here. Godolphin had to cheat to deny Camelot the triple crown. Going to beat his record a few months back?He smashes it every year. They are the best and its not even close. Get real and speak with some sense before you post as its cringeworthy.

Donegal what you’ve said is interesting, it matches up with what the camera showed crossing the line, his ears were pricked, one forwards one backwards.
Then add to what Buick said,
“William [Buick] said he expected to be taking him back at the three [furlong marker] but instead he was asking him. He was up against a horse who had already seen out nine furlongs, so he wasn't going to stop, but I was pleased with our horse. He got to the winner but he couldn't get past…”
I read into that that he was surprised that he had to go when he did, on ITV they had said maybe Buick went too early but here we see he felt he had to as this guy was just going to keep on relentlessly.

Two things, the Guineas hasn’t seemed a target for AOB’s best and is the Derby that important anymore?
Moore said he has speed, is a 10f horse when interviewed on ITV straight after. All sounds a lot like Constitution River, could he not go for the Jockey Club the same way?
Is it the press that re talking up the Triple Crown or something they really want?

Horses here seem so tied by trip, whereas in Australia they’ll run them over all sorts, here Thundering On aside recently they get pigeon holed maybe sometimes too soon?

“The Betfred 2,000 Guineas had initiated the thinking behind Darkness Falls coming to Newmarket for the Dewhurst. Track experience for next year would be one advantage gained from it, as would an understanding of whether the colt would have the pace for a contest O’Brien likens to a sprint due to where it falls in a three-year-old’s development.”
From the same report from the RP which I thought was a good quote because they targeted the pacey True Love for the 1000. She won but no one really thinks of her as a true miler.

What did they say about City Of Troy? He was still available at 16/1 for Epsom after winning his 1st race. He also won The Dewhurst. His Dosage Index was 1.21 (Darkness Falls is 0.94). A lower figure is more likely to stay middle distance races.
I think Darkness Falls could be an above average Epsom runner if Desert Castle beats the others easily in one of the next season's 2000G trials. He'd be more Epsom than Newmarket for me.

Interesting points Impossible, you never mentioned dosages before but it adds more weight.
You think he might get turned over in the Guineas? But go on to win the Derby?

With the form of yesterdays race you have to ask if Gentle Hurricane improved from Donny?
Beat 6 3/4L in the Champagne (5/1)
3 3/3L in the Dewhurst (50/1)

No, I think Darkness Falls would win, if he's truly fit. However, AOB has always said it's difficult to get a 3yr old ready for May. He tried that with Luxembourg (the horse got injured), and missed Epsom too - his main target.
I think True Love was being chanced at Newmarket because of the hold-up with Precise, their original numero uno.

Good luck with it Impossible, I’d not play that far in advance. Have two feelings about this, one that it laid down the lines for battle next year so was a nice finishing point for season.
But then again there’s this sense of the races being run and won in advance. So the optimism vanishes in comparison to the excitement for next year.
I haven’t followed the younger horses as like to let them run their races and weigh up the form.
That Gentle Hurricane finished closer at Newmarket gives me reasons to think that the form has to be taken with a small pinch at the moment and gives hope that it’s not run and won already.

I no longer see the Epsom Derby as the race it used to be eh a top 3yr old. It's been devalued by AOB / Coolmore for their multiple and very mediocre runners recently. AOB / Coolmore have tended not to send their winner to The ARC unless it's a crappy one eg Benvenuto Cellini. It's no longer a race I enjoy betting on or picking the winner. But, at 4/1 I think Darkness Falls would be more likely to excel in and win.

That’s the situation though Foyles that I’m alluding too above, with the recent memory of Daryz who was a similar price for months but there was the temptation to look elsewhere for a bigger price.
With these though a lot can happen from 2 to 3 so there’s more likely to be a potential lurker.
Is Desert Castle his only colt or does Chazza have another Notable Speech???….

yes daryz was one for the fav backers but many more have gone down ,last years winner gewan shows what can go wrong . darkness was only a head in front of desert castle and great barrier reef woulda been a good bit closer with a clear run . not saying he wont win the derby or gns but it was a 5 runner tactical affair and it wont be the same scenario in the gns .
