The better term of interest than memory is 'consciousness'

With these sort of questions, the philosophers spent a lot more time and effort than the physicists ever did. Does our consciousness continue beyond the physical - a very big question.
The physicists assume everything is physical for a start - and then assume they understand what 'physical' actually means. It's a long running discussion area in philosophy.

Energy cannot be destroyed, but it can be transformed. When you die the energy in your brain converts into heat and is dispersed into the environment.
