Great to hear my old local track Towcester is back.
Used to be a good track for viewing with the course sloping away from you. You could see it all with binoculars. Not sure if the greyhound track will ruin that, but still, glad they are racing again. The old wooden stand was a beauty. |

Never been brandy......My old Dad loved telling me if you stood on the winning line you couldn't see a horse until between the 2f to 1f pole as the hill is so steep!

Also, because of the small field sizes, some were pricing up the straight forecasts for the race
In one 5 runner race...6/4, 2/1, the front two, then 6s 7s 10s roughly On the same joint... The 2/1 shot to beat the 6/4 shot straight f/c was 9/4...! I kid you not...who would take that? In a chase? |

Its very steep.
Tough on the horses but great for the spectator. The old unsaddling enclosure used to be just outside the ring. So you could walk up and hear connections chatting. I remember a horse of Jim Olds who ran 5th or 6th in the previous seasons Cheltenham bumper, making his novice hurdle debut there. Killone Abbot. He ran out of the frame at Towcester. I hovered about as Jamie Osborne approached Jim Old. He said to him, he was cruising, never asked him anything, and he will definitely win next time. |

Ive heard very similar coversations at Lingfield where you can get really close the first 3 in the winners enclosure....sometimes handy listening to the jock talking to the groom on the way in......A good few years back Neil Callan rode SMITH at Lingfield and on the way in said to the groom "i was waiting for him to take off....maybe next time"...
Well it wasn't the next time but SMITH did win at a price if I remember correctly, albeit a way down the line. |

Generally speaking reg after the 5 Scottish track Bangor would be the best course in the uk for punter value with the on course books.

Yes, jimnast, a four hour drive both ways from Somerset
Missus had to visit someone for personal reasons at their home about 5 miles from the course...she doesn't drive, so after consulting the Racing Calendar I got the massive brownie points for volunteering to drive her up there, and making myself scarce for the afternoon |

The last time about 15 years ago though, when I took in the Wolverhampton evening AW meeting on the way home as well |

On the ratler on the way home did a bottle in and spent a monkey lovely to see the family enjoying themselves a great day at the best course in the country.Rzonnie.
