6 jocks none of them rode in the 1st race,why dont they ut a leg over one thats jut ran and ride it round the bend,see what they think, should have a few at everycourse to ride round the bend before racing ,

so whats happening?

simples would naturally be happy to ride one around the bend flat out,or perhaps not

someone will be the 1st to do it at some oint,either jock,trainers,groundtaff,thought it was safe before racing,or no one bothered to look, will be same at next meeting so someone will be going flat out around the bend 1st

Anyone still working will be aware that this is the modern way. Nobody wants to be THAT person who makes a decision, they don't want the accountability. So it will be done by 'committee', meaning every individual can claim it wasn't their choice either way. Ordinarily you don't even get to know who was on the 'committee', and certainly not what their input was.

For sure, but they won't just leave it to the people taking the risk. But the suits won't want to be telling the people taking the risk what to do/not to do. That's why you end up with scenarios with loads of talking heads scratching their balls.

Just like the "low sun" scenario, and for the reasons in the excellent post by Cider at 1601, jockeys effectively exercise a veto. I have no problem with that as they are, as Uptheirons and Cider implied, the people taking the risk. What annoys me is the messing around each time, especially with the sun. 2 senior jockeys go to the relevant parts of the track about 5 mins b4 the start (if they are riding, leave paddock early) , take a look, make a decision, tell the steward with them. Announce it. Bosh. Job done.

why would every jockey and every trainer think the same. connections can pull their horses out if they don't want to run, and jockeys can go home. as TM did at Chester. everyone has got skin in the game, but for different reasons.

that may be right Cider, but I am sure I heard that the jockey's representative at Bellewstown said that most of them were in favour of racing on. But the decision went the way of those who didn't wish to. It always will surely. I simply cannot remember an occasion where a group of jockeys have been over-ruled. I am not saying that is wrong, merely that the practicality of the position is that if a reasonable minority wish to stop, then the stewards will go that wau.

It's a flawed system isn't it, as I allude to, there are various incentives, and they aren't always aligned. If you're scheduled to be riding a favourite and you're usually on rags, it's not the same as someone who gets loads of rides a day and only has rags left that day.

so how does that work if either horse or amateur jock were seriously injured in the 1st,with groundsmen ,COC,pro jocks who are suposed to walk,check,inspect the track before racing,all sat in the stand watching, whilst the canarie,s in the coal mine have a spin round

No they ran the 4 o’clock race as it was on the straight course simple as that,everyone attending today will be getting a full refund .sorry if that’s not the story you wanted.

listening to the COC seemed the jocks were more upset/annoyed  about the racing line and the realignment of the track from the last meeting ,rather than the ground,how many jocks flagged that up before racing ? and if one didnt slip in the 1st,all would have raced on a track they wernt happy with

presumably it only becomes clear once the course is negotiated at racing speed. but obviously only amateurs ran in the first.

I haven't been to lots of tracks, but when I went to Thirsk
I was surprised at how tight that bend was.
