THE DAVID ALLEN IT SOLUTIONS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4)
Permission was given for NATIVE INSTINCT and GOLDEN STRIKE (IRE) to wear a red hood to the
start and go early to post and LORD CAPULET (IRE) to go early to post.
An enquiry was held into the start of this race and the participation of NATIVE INSTINCT, drawn 2,
ridden by Sam James. The rider and the Starter were interviewed and shown recordings of the start.
The Stewards considered that the gelding should be deemed to be a runner as there was no faulty
action of the starting stalls and NATIVE INSTINCT had anticipated the start as the start was effected,
resulting in the gelding wedging its nose between the bars of the starting gate and NATIVE INSTINCT
being slowly away.
Approximately 1½ furlongs out, VINCE LOMBARDI, unplaced, shifted left-handed for one hit, briefly
inconveniencing SON, placed second, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no
riding offence was involved.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that NATIVE INSTINCT, which started joint-favourite
and finished fourth, sustained a wound to its mouth.

Sounds a bit odd. If a horse wedges it's nose in the gate its a runner, if it puts it's
leg up on the stall shelf it's a nonner. They make it up as they like imo.

None of them should be called non runners basically - it's just the stupid decision in the Derby that was completely and utterly wrong.
Horse cheated and tried to beat the gun. As the lunchbox guy used to say Go on the B of the Bang.
Had they declared it a non runner then every future event of a jockey taking the blind off would have to be treated the same, no technical fault or human fault, purely the horse and no World Pool to influence?
