The Headlines in the Racing Post .
'We laid Item £950 each-way at 9-1 and the punter took home more than £12,000 from us' - bookies reflect on day one of the Ebor festival,
When i first went to York in the 1950s that bet would have hardly received a mention,i was on around 8 pounds a week as a stable lad

An amount of £950 in 1958 had the same purchasing power as roughly £31.33 in 1958.

£950 now is the same as £45.66 in 1958

The bet would not have had a mention in 1958 because it would be as rare as hens teeth.

Another example of how  Everything has to be 'Hyped-up', nowadays.

Racing Post states --  'the punter took home more than £12,000 from us'

Well, yes he did - 'take home more than £12,000'  - BUT ...

£1,900 of that was HIS OWN money =  His STAKE.

Thank you - workrider

The health issue was my right shoulder deciding to Dislocate itself from the rest of my body -- not once, but twice - just when we thought we had got it going again.  Sad

As I am right-handed, that rendered attempting to rapidly race around Racing Post - and, irishracing.com Happy - for Form study,  slow to impossible - and had I decided that I had 'found a Winner', then I would have probably ended up pressing the Lay Button, instead of the Back Button, by attempting to use my left hand instead  Sad

Needless to say, trying to type on the Forum would have taken forever, too.

Pleased to say that I am now, eventually, back - 'enjoying the fulness of life' .... just as I hope you, too, are still doing so. Happy
