"Chepstow today, Worcester tomorrow and Stratford on Thursday, proper racing. Star are also betting up at York but I’m sure it’s the jumping that will capture the betting public’s imagination."
I am sure this is tongue in cheek. Don't think Star wanted to report anymore £100k and £200k bets wiping out months of peanuts earned at the gaff tracks.

Yeah I would guess bookies don't mind the average punter having a laugh at losses. And also when you are winning no problem shouting it out. But if you are losing BIG high rollers might get a bit careful.
Got to say if I was asked to report on Chepstow and the two jumps meetings instead of 4 days "Ascot of the North" featuring the race of the season all I would say is stick the job up your @rse !!

Flat racing at Chepstow on a midweek afternoon is one of racing's great hidden joys. It's quiet, it's beautiful, and the horses and the people are like old friends if you're a regular.
I would pay good money not to go to York this week. The ground is overwatered, the horses foreign, the results unfathomable, and the fish and chips give you food poisoning.

A couple of things from yesterday: that David Evans 2yo that won on its debut looked a proper racehorse physically, but was rather green and leading its handler around the paddock. When it missed the break and was under pressure at half way, I was glad I had decided just to watch it rather than back it. So it was a bit of a shock to see it suddenly quicken up and win cosily. It was interesting that Simon reported some decent bets for it in the Chepstow Ring (£400 at 16s). This could be a decent horse.
And the James Owen horse Rogue Exile, who went into the 7f handicap with just two runs to its name (second and first) and ran a stinker ... that had two handlers in the paddock, its eyes were out on stalks and it looked like a colt badly needing a gelding operation. There was money for it early (I managed to lay it at 4.1 after seeing it in the paddock), but it drifted right out to something like 6.0 at the off and finished last. Watch out for it if it's gelded before it runs again.
As I said, Chepstow Flat racing is a hidden joy. York Flat racing is impossible to find an edge at.

All good stuff screaming although you missed out the JS Extra Smooth. If York is so hard why no betting reports ? Xmas day is a cert. Super mover and a top stayer in the making.

Good luck, howard! I'm always happy if someone is looking forward to a race meeting, even if i'm not.
Christmas Day looked a very good Derby winner on overwatered ground at Epsom, so he should be right at home at York.

To be honest, I think Simon's betting reports from the gaffs are more useful to punters than the ones from the festival meetings.
I mean, I do enjoy reading how Tabor has had a hundred grand on the O'Brien favourite and so on, but does that tell you anything you didn't already know? And there's always the niggling feeling that all may not be as it seems when it's reported that Energumene, owned by T Bloom of Starlizard, Brighton, has attracted a bet of £725,000 with Star Sports, Brighton.
But that bit of info in yesterday's report, that the unraced D Evans 2yo winner attracted a bet of £400 at 16s and basically left the whole Ring bar the Star Sports pitches floundering - that is worth knowing. The off-course SP of 14s didn't give any clue that the horse was fancied, the money was down, and the result was no fluke.

Yes. That is always the problem with these reports.
Of course Simon has to be careful about revealing names. Which is why the reports from the gaffs are more informative in a way. If a horse at a meeting like Chepstow yesterday attracts a team going around the Ring taking a price and not alerting the off-course firms, you can be pretty sure that it's informed money and can probably be traced back to the connections.
But someone having £10,000 on one of the favs at York tells you nothing other than there are still people out there with £10,000 to spare.

screaming/irons very good points and I largely agree. The change hasn't happened because of that though. If betting reports have been dropped from the top meetings what does it look like ? Imagine media dropping reports on Man City and increasing reports on my team (York City )

I'm a massive fan of Simon's work. Vids and blogs. But serious players/pro's liking write up's for the gaffs is totally irrelevant to firms that play to faces and basically want totally clueless rich mugs. Tell me if i'm wrong but there has never been a week where 3 low grade meetings have been given betting reports. Certainly not Ebor week. Screaming and Irons may like them. That actually proves they are on the wrong path covering them. Sad to say but this may be a slow way to say goodbye because reports from these meetings are only interesting to the kind of customer they don't want. A slow death maybe thought preferable to saying suddenly we are stopping them after R Ascot/ Goodwood. You will know the numbers.
