All those poor souls buying glasses for a non-event. It’s been blanket coverage on the news for days!

I live in south Warwickshire and it went “dusk like” about 7-20pm for 15 minutes.

I watched it through great glasses on Hove beach. It was spectacular and the number of people out for it was fab - was like New Years - very cool. And I'm an old cynic.

Nothing here in South Yorkshire. I played a bowls match from 7 p.m to 8 . And the sun was strong throughout.
Clear case of the BBC building something up and the pretending how good it was, when it wasn't.
Not seen a single independent photo , only a few dodgy probably library ones from Yorkshire live.  They show an eclipse  in a total black sky, never happened.

My Brother put his drone up where he lives in South West London....sent me the recording last night. It looked like a late summers evening and that was about it.

It is mildly amusing how gullible people are, as long as the information is coming from 'alleged' reliable sources, they'll believe practically anything. RTV were so desperate to make out it actually happened that they faked one in the studio instead. I do love the fact that Kempton fired up the floodlights early, in anticipation of being plunged into darkness.

In London last night watching with a group from the South Bank.  I found it rather fun.  And definitely darker and cooler for a good while between 7 and 7.30.

Friends in Spain got totality, which would have been rather better, but glad I  got out to see it.

The science is pretty interesting, but the reality for most people is it's akin to a big cloud on an otherwise sunny day. After the 'event' you'll get plenty of people convincing themselves it wasn't a let down. It is of course, human nature.

1999 was a total eclipse from England, so definitely more impressive - I watched it from a park in the City.

The most impressive thing I've seen in the sky for myself was Concorde passing right overhead

Cider -- I used to work under the flight path to Heathrow and even in the 1990s people in the street would still look up at Concorde, even though they must have seen it hundreds of times. It had the most beautiful silhouette.

A 30 years earlier memory is being ushered out of our junior school classroom to watch a Concorde test flight pass overhead.

Great points about Concorde always a magnificent sight how sad we don’t see it anymore.

I came out of an Italian restaurant in South Kensington at about 7ish. Right outside the entrance to the Tube station I amongst many others saw an intense light from the sun. I did not notice any darkness prior. I'd have missed it whilst in the restaurant, of course.

The power of the explosion, captured from miles away, making it look like it's being captured in the middle of bright morning. And the long delay before the sound of it reached the place where the anticipated take off was being filmed from. Provides real context to the 'speed of sound' and how slow it is compared to the speed of light.

i was in a sailing yacht on the way back from doughville, funnily enough, and we were all dozing on deck after a heavy few days when concordes sonic boom went off as it flew over

Well the hype didn't get to me as i wasn't even aware it was a thing till about an hour before it started. But 'the emperors new clothes' is going a bit far. It REALLY DID happen. :D .... and yes we live in times when everything is over-hyped - but most of us on here are cynical grumpy old men, who have kinda seen it all and are very much jaded. Sad for us, and normal but doesn't mean stuff doesn't happen.

There were literally bozos walking past my property with home made viewing gadgets, excitedly searching for the best place to view the setting sun (presumably, anticipating the once in a lifetime eclipse they'd been promised).

One of them was around 10 or 11. I doubt they will be still be getting sucked in when they reach my vintage. But, I suppose there are still people who never stop falling for such things.

The gullible weren't falling for the fact that an eclipse was predicted. It's the ones that were told they should be really excited, once in a lifetime opportunity et al

an eclipse happened, as predicted. theres never a sure thing with this stuff and gullible is over-stating it a bit. you sound like a conspiracy loon

you can go and look for the northern lights and see nothing. next one up the skies on fire

Nobody here is stating it was a conspiracy, imo. There's just thousands and thousands of gullible idiots, that accept anything they are told as long as it comes from certain sources.

It's not even the gullible idiots' fault in a way. The system is now engineered to make them that way. You might claim that is a conspiracy ;)

Yes impossible we enjoyed it quiet a sight really we went around midday on a Thursday which probably wasn’t the best idea as it was very very busy,just by there under a bridge there was an amazing German bar which I would like to watch a sporting event in.
