Gone to Skelton. Interesting to see how he does there. Presumably they won't try to bury it out the back and come there on the bridle..

I wouldn't risk it whoever was pushing the buttons. I think it's a shame that everyone seems to think this guy is the oracle. Not good for punters.
In Ireland you have Elliott, De Bromhead and Cromwell at least to some extent putting it up to Mullins.
What do you have over here? Henderson won't be around that much longer, and Nicholls is already on the decline. So we will have domination from a trainer who operates in a way that you couldn't remotely describe as punter friendly. Of course the media will constantly build him up because are always desperate for some sort of narrative.

It would be nice to see his plans for all the big prize money handicaps this season.
You could have a nice earner laying them until "the day" then backing them on it.

I think he has proven over the last 10 years, he is a very good trainer.
One on my favourite chasers back in time after backing him a couple of times in the Autumn of 2023. In my opinion he was the best jumper of a fence since Sprinter Sacre, watch his Kempton Kauto Star Chase win on Boxing day.
I've always thought the horse got injured in his next race at Auteuil, there's a water jump, i think it may be the Tribune fence, he jumped it too well and maybe stretched something, but what do i know, i'm not a vet. Whatever it was, he went from travelling well to fading quickly, finishing last of 5, beaten 55L (30/100f) clearly something was amiss.
He did win again, albeit only a G3 and a small conditions hurdle race, but in between these runs made a valiant attempt to lead all the way in the KG at Kempton in 2024 (given a rating of 166 for this run). Dan may find out what's troubling the horse and get to the bottom of it, but after 3 x PU in recent runs, i have my doubts he will win a graded race again. A pity, he was a sight to watch in his races before that race after Kempton 2023, i felt he was possibly the next Denman. I was lucky enough to watch him run at Auteuil, but sadly he was PU that day.

On a wet September Tuesday (those were the days) I had At The Races on and watched a chase from Auteuil with little happening in the UK at the time and witnessed Il Est Francais saunter home in such impressive style that I looked up the horse's form and stuck him in my tracker. It was his first chase. He kept on improving and won the Kauto Star in such a fast time that he would have won the following King George by 20 lengths!
I think Skelton will strip him back to basics and retrain him, seeing if he is amiable to restraint and take it from there.
A really fascinating project, fingers crossed that the beast has still got most of his awesome talent. Already dropped from 166 to 155, given his impressive physique, he could bully inferior opponents in handicaps at the very least.

They put that down to bursting a blood vessel, not for the first time, this really will be a test for Skelton if that issue continues.
They'd have been better off sending him to Ireland where he could have perhaps run in all those soft grade 2 and 3's they've got over there where he might not have to come off the bridle too much.

The problem with the Auteuil water jump is that the landing side isn't flat and if a horse isn't foot perfect he can do muscular damage.

Bled a couple of times,after that they won't go there when the chips are down, shame as he was a fine prospect.
