Not big prices either...

He does well with the low level horses he is sent with over a hundred winners a season
Report stu August 9, 2026 5:10 PM BST
Picks the 'on' ones well yes. But othertimes...like this one....

It is a scattergun approach and always has been.
Good luck trying to guess them, stu.
Report stu August 9, 2026 5:35 PM BST
scattergun implies it's never deliberate, so not a good description IMO.
Report stu August 9, 2026 5:35 PM BST
deliberate either way too.

I know a great deal more about the Yard than you,but feel free to think otherwise, stu.

Struggling to see what the issue is here.

Two horses in a run of the mill 6 runner handicap start at SP's of 6/1 and 15/2 and finish 4th and 5th. Not far off where the market would have put them.

Not talking a Dick Francis plot here are we Laugh

TBH 'insiders' approach is exactly why I have that view irons, thanks for confirming it!
Report uptheirons August 9, 2026 6:20 PM BST
That's ok,stu.
The Yard are no way as shrewd as most think
Report stu August 9, 2026 6:20 PM BST
They may certainly not be the punters friend, but they know who their 'friends' are for sure this mob.
Report stu August 9, 2026 6:21 PM BST
will have to agree to disagree with that view irons.
Report uptheirons August 9, 2026 6:22 PM BST
"Insiders" have existed since the dawn of Racing
Report stu August 9, 2026 6:26 PM BST
Yes, and some stables go down that line of approach far more than others....

Lower grade horses dictate opportunities available.
When was life fair?
Report stu August 9, 2026 6:30 PM BST
I understand the motives for sure.
Report uptheirons August 9, 2026 6:32 PM BST
Far safer to back better grade races, imo.
Report kincsem August 10, 2026 10:20 AM BST
I agree with comment to stick to better grade races.
At lower levels it if like lottery balls, no idea who will fall into the 1,2,3 holes.
It is like trying to pick the best slice of bread in a sliced pan.

its well enough known that ironmaiden was part of carrolls for a while as a retained hairdresser but chucked it in when it became clear he had to be shorn 3 times a day

the upturn in t c's fortunes coincided with iron exit and his special hair tonic being fed to the horses

TC stable of last couple of seasons has changed imo . They've definitely become more shrewd and selective with certain horses. Yes they have a selection of moderate horses that just run every week, a scattergun approach.
Another thing i noted is horses have been going in on their first run for the stable , clearly doing something to sweeten them.

He got a friend's horse to win second time out. It was well handicapped on it's 2 year old form but had been running like a drain with a top Yorkshire trainer. It was well backed into second favourite and won easy; that said they had expected it to win on it's first run for him.
