A punter from the UK has revealed to GamblingNews.uk that bet365 is refusing to release his winnings following England’s dramatic World Cup victory over Mexico. He staked around £8,000 on the match and expected a straightforward payout once the final whistle blew.

...
For the bettor involved, that result should have triggered an immediate payout on his winning ticket. Instead, he says bet365 opened a responsible gambling review the moment he tried to withdraw his funds. He claims no such check had ever been applied to his account before this sizeable win.

As part of that review, the operator asked him to provide bank statements and other proof of income. The stated purpose is to verify that his income can support the level of gambling on his account, a request he says was never made during any previous period of betting or losing. The punter added that he lost over £20,000 gambling with bet365 over the prior two years and never faced issues or “responsible gambling checks” when depositing funds.

Here's the Australian bit:-

bet365 ordered by Australia’s financial watchdog to get AML structures in check

ustralia’s national financial regulator AUSTRAC has entered into a binding agreement with bet365 that obliges the operator to strengthen its internal AML controls.

The system overhaul requires the implementation of an ongoing risk assessment approach “underpinned by clear methodology and processes”, accompanied by stronger suspicious transaction monitoring as risks evolve.

According to the regulator, the action follows an independent audit of bet365’s operations, which constituted that the above actions are needed to achieve an on-par regulatory compliance.

Brendan Thomas, AUSTRAC Chief Executive Officer, commented: “Gambling businesses pose an inherent money laundering risk and we are focusing on the risks to the Australian economy from money laundering through this sector.

“The gambling industry processes large volumes of money at high speed, often through anonymous digital channels. This creates opportunities criminals look to exploit.

“This means businesses need to continuously improve their systems to assess risks and monitor for suspicious activity because when controls fall behind, the consequences extend beyond a single company.”

...
...
bet365 not the first on the list

Most notably, the financial watchdog filed a lawsuit against Entain Australia in December 2024, to be heard in the Federal Court of Australia on 30 November 2026, alleging systemic breaches of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006.

Another domestic player, Flutter-owned Sportsbet, was also subjected to AUSTRAC-mandated changes to its AML controls in May 2024.

So they're literally trying to rob him of his winnings. If they get away with it all the firms will do the same.

"We just have to hope and pray that this kind of behaviour doesn't encourage anybody to bet with those dastardly "black market" bookmakers that aren't licensed and regulated in the UK."

365 is trying it on. I'd suggest an email to Ms Denise Coates.

Ladcrookes did that to me when I asked to withdraw my deposit of (2 mins) - not winning - having been invited in an email to bet £20 and get a £20 free bet; day-release staff and duty manager online would not help.

However, an email to their CEO prompted a near immediate response from the head honcho at this department. He cited their t&c, verification, etc, but I referred him to their promotional email. The deposit was in my account within two days.

I had a dispute with them several years ago where they were trying to pay me less than I was entitled to. I took my complaint to IBAS and ultimately I was paid exactly what I was claiming. Immediately on payment they restricted my account saying I had opted into ''self exclusion'' for a period of time. I told them I had done no such thing and asked what period of time I had self excluded myself for and they couldn't give an answer. It was ridiculous. Emails were sent back and forth as I asked for evidence that I self excluded and they couldn't provide any for the simple reason I have never ever had to avail of that service with any bookmaker. Eventually they blocked me and terminated my account. So boys and girls if you take them to IBAS and win your case expect to be banned. Horrible outfit in my opinion.
