Are the horse boxes fully equipped with air con whilst they are carted up the motorway? or are they transported overnight when it's a little less uncomfortable??

The conditions may well be 24 with a light winds at the track, but getting the horse there is likely far more arduous.

Makes you wonder what it must be like for the livestock packed into confined spaces being transported up and down the country.

The BHA rules are you can't race or transport horses through any 'red alert' zone.

Thur and Fri fixtures outside this zone but still forecast to be significantly hot have been brought forward to the morning.

Tomorrow Leicester Nottingham and Newmarket are borderline, just outside the red zone. I'm surprised they're going ahead, given Salisbury and Kempton off today, and tonorrow's conditions will be similar.

If we start becoming over concerned about horses racing in high temperatures and stop it happening, it will be 2 degress cooler next time etc. etc and we will soon have the sport banned.

No genuine horse racing wants to see horses harmed or in distress but let us not forget that every single thoroughbred in the woeld descends from horses who were born and lived in some of the hottest countries on earth.

Race horse may have fragile legs but they are tough and immensly strong creatures. Provding the right measures are in place - and they are with the policy of no racing when a Red heat warning is in force- the sport must then not give in to the do-gooders who want a perfect world.

There is no such thing as a perfect world, either for man or beast!!

they are descended from 3 horses removed from the middle east but the intensity of inbreeding and sheer volume has made the thoroughbred feeble compared to all other horses

if the darley arab, etc had remained where they were born they would have interbred with others. as it is they were brought to europe and the genetic diversity didnt come with them

horses have got no faster or stronger despite the quantum leap in equine veterinary science because the genetic defects hve been built in and made much worse now because of massively increased number of faols to a small number of fashionable sires, driven by greed for towelhead money and the fact they dont givash1t. fees are crazy, because of demand but with no thought of the damage caused further on

sires once covered 50 mares, now its 200

thoroughbreds could not live as a wild animal, or at least find it very hard, is my guess, but i dunno

old school owners didnt have billions to spend on matings in the scattergun way the towels do. they were rich enough but did not use state coffers to fund their hobby

Betfair ought to pass on details of those spending inordinate amounts of time posting on here without trading.
Ought to weed out a few benefit layabouts who could be workingPlain, possibly using the very medium they use to post bs all day every year.

I can see why stressing horses in public is bad PR but don't forget that thousands of people are looking after them every day in stables etc. and thousands more people are looking after domestic livestock. Feeding, bedding down attending to the needs of mothers and babies etc. every day of the year whether it is minus 10 or plus 35 degrees. They are usually forgotten in the debate about animal welfare and usually are not covered by arbitrary guidlines about safe working environments. I still maintain that cold weather is far more likely to kill people than hot.

Agree with a few of leif's comments about benefits for obese people but not about posting on a forum. How is Betfair supposed to know when someone is working from a forum post? I am now retired (and not obese) but I was always self emplloyed. Why can't I rant on here when having a break from heavy toil?

It just emphasises how desperate they are to provide fodder for people to lose their money. They have a choice, the animals don't. So many weeks of mediocrity, and the week after Royal Ascot is never better than rubbish at the best of times. How difficult would it have been to have a complete shutdown?

cant get in unless you go at 7 am. only last week a group of yoofs who dont go in for swimming usually caused havoc to all the families there by bunking in the queue and throwing chairs around when they got in there. one geezer was stabbed

as they do every year without fail. now everyone is searched on the way in, middle-aged ladies included as it would be unfair to single out one minority so evryone is inconvenienced
