carlisle punters still wearing coats.

I'm not going to Nottingham then. I can't get up before 9.00am these days, and by the time I've taken my meds and had breakfast that would be when the meeting is starting. And it would then be a 90min drive. At least I haven't wasted £9 on a ticket.

I'm going to Carlisle. Coat & scarf only, leaving the mittons at home.

It's hot! It's hot! Ooh, it's too hot for me! Oh no, I like the heat me! So hot though isn't it. No but this is too hot. Do you prefer it too hot or too cold? Ohh, I wish it was too cold me, this is too hot. Yes, it is hot isn't it. Yes! It's hot! It was hot last year, but this year is really hot. I prefer the cold me. No but you complain when it's cold, then when it's hot you say it's too hot!! They say closing the curtains is the best thing to do when it's hot. Close your curtains, demolish the roof off and have a hot cup of tea, or is it a cold cup of tea? No, when it's hot you have to have a hot toddy under an electric blanket, but make sure it's a cold one! I prefer the cold me, this is too hot, is anyone else hot? Yes, I'm hot too. The weather's really hot. Not like Europe, there it's really hot. You're not going on holiday are you coz that'll be hot, yes hot, really hot, not like here, I mean it's hot here but there it's really hot. No but they can cope with it, they're got siestas when it's hot. Hot. It's hot, it's REALLY HOT.

no it doesn't Cider. Which makes the whole thing a bit daft. If Ascot had been this week, the Wed/Thursday would have been abandoned as it would have been in the Red  Zone. But now, even thought the forecast temperature is level/below today ( Amber) , it remains in the Red Zone. I wonder how that works. Catastrophic for racing if they lost 2 + days of the Royal meeting. But we would if the FORECAST, 2 days prior to the meeting, showed a Red Zone EVEN IF the forecast was wrong!

29 degrees ear today in wal send..uncomfortable.
Report Cider June 23, 2026 9:30 PM BST
It's the State, so no consequences or accountability. Hence it's much easier to run with the worst case scenario.

I suppose the BHA has to run with the original forecast/warning.

It is a bit curious though, as it was far warmer a few weeks ago (so far). If there hadn't have been all this nudging, so far it would have been a typical (albeit very warm) pleasant day where I am.

"...to ensure the safety of claimants..."

Not because the civil servants want to sit in their paddling pool in their garden, and ring the claimants to check that they are all actively seeking employment?
Report salmon spray June 24, 2026 10:50 AM BST
The civil servants who actually interview claimants regularly, will be Clerical officer grade ( or whatever it's called now ). As such they will be on less than the average wage and unlikely to have paddling pools.
Report Regbutler June 24, 2026 10:57 AM BST
Salmon, I said paddling pools, not swimming pools.
I got one for the grandkids last week, 15 quid from B & M

yet more rubbish from fishface

they will not be on less than the average. they will be on considerably more than someone in the private sector in a similar role, but who is also under pressure to perform, something alien to public servants who are paid regardless, have zero fear of redundancy and are almost impossible to sack

job security comes with the territory. and the perks are way ahead also, from hefty pensions to holidays and working hours. all massivey better in the public sector. how do you measure their perfpormance? you cant. private firms go bust all the time if they are not innovative and dynamic

a friend was one for 25 years and retired in his 40s with a handy pension, no mortgage and never having to move, apply for jobs, face redundancy or any discomfort at all. he sailed through without effort until hed done his 25 years. cushy byomnd the dreams of the private sector

Disappointing but not surprising to see that salmon spray is still the same idiot lefty NPC he was years ago when I more frequently contributed to the Forum.  He and that Cornish communist Lampus, were as thick as thieves (pun intended).
