Betfair clearly know there is a Stewards Enquiry at Musselburgh as they have not settled the market. So why haven't they reopened the betting?

Market management of photos and stewards enquiries is one big mess, and it's a lottery whether markets are reopened in a timely manner, late, or not at all. It would be a huge easy win for Betfair to launch a set process for all horse races where they reopen every market immediately following the end-of-race suspension. This would be for a set period of time, which they could choose to extend in the event of an enquiry or extended photo delay.

Simple to implement and better for all concerned.

nonsense.  if they think they can make money they'll re-open it, if they don't they'll go and make a cup of tea.
think someone's sitting there deciding to reopen or not for the benefit of you ??

That requires people with ability , which is sadly lacking. I have come to the conclusion that the staff they employ are not well paid, and therefore are not well trained ,or seem to lack common sense. The Musselburgh market not reopened , despite the winners last price matched was 1.16 , signifying it wasn't a done deal. The actual Enquiry itself was announced quickly  for a change , but BETFAIR chose to sleep on the job . Amateurish doesn't cover it !

I've messaged them numerous times. Waste of time really. If the first photo or stewards doesn't re-open, chances are they've got someone incompetent on duty and the rest of the day will be the same. I'm not sure why they need to close and re-open anyway. A lot of races in America stay open after the finish line for no apparent reason. It's hard to tell if it's incompetence, deliberate mismanagement or a member of staff whose multi-tasking numerous markets. Probably the latter.

incompetence and apathy

those who knew the exchange were binned or moved on and not replaced during corcorans 'streamlining', ie, shaving costs and undermining the product and as time wears on the cracks are getting wider but hes long gone with his fat bonus and those left behind arent properly trained (many from ppower) and nobody cares

the u.s is worse. they just forget and then void all i/r which drives you nuts if you think youve won a few quid and havent. or worse, your pre-race is a loser but the rest voided, even if you greened out

In this instance, bits and pieces of 1.06 out to 1.16 was Layed for the winner.
Clearly in the hope of a Stewards.
BF had a look and decided that they can keep those bets this time

fwiw ive complained about the photo management last week and this enquiry
Report uptheirons June 22, 2026 4:08 PM BST
The winner looked nailed on to keep the race.
Why else not open?
Report Cider June 22, 2026 4:08 PM BST
The specific example isn't that material, but that one would have been practically no offers. Generally it is very inconsistent.
Report uptheirons June 22, 2026 4:09 PM BST
If there was a good chance of it going I suspect it would have opened
Report Cider June 22, 2026 4:17 PM BST
I don't see that nuance in the policy, or at least the application of it. It is pretty random. Especially photos.
Report Cider June 22, 2026 4:20 PM BST
That one in muscle just now re-opened immediately, and never in doubt.
Report Hugo-Hackenbush June 22, 2026 4:23 PM BST
its quite simply down to whoever the market operator monkey is on a particular day..some days photo's open instantly..other days after 30-60 secs.

It's not surgery of the rocket variety.

- The Exchange operations/trading team can suspend, manage, or intervene in markets if needed (e.g. integrity concerns, major errors, data issues).
- Automated systems monitor markets for irregular activity.
- In-play suspensions are typically triggered automatically by data feeds, not manually in real time by a person.

notfair aint interested

racing needs micro-managing, unlike most other sports and they dont have the will to do it as it doesnt make them any money

if racing keeps shoving up rights payments notfair might see that as an excuse and end it. not impossible

All of the below was said via a CS manager:

We only apply “stewards enquiry” settlements where the enquiry explicitly relates to the official winner of the race. In this instance, it was not clear at the time of suspension that the enquiry involved the winner, and there was no official confirmation published to that effect (including from the BHA).

Because of that uncertainty, the market was left in a suspended state. This was done to protect customers who had already placed bets and to preserve the integrity of wagers placed before the market closed.

The decision was therefore a market integrity measure rather than selective intervention. Once the official result was confirmed, settlement was carried out in line with the published outcome.

They have just now answered and said the race was indeed manually managed.

The Stewards was into possible interference with the winner and second.
To say otherwise is Cobblers

How is that protecting customers if all keep bets are cancelled at suspension?

he's not going to open it until he's got the thumbs up from the 5 figure trading department, they could be all the way over the side of the room
